Need clarification

I received my original license in a non-compact state, and it isn't in nursys either. I am interested in getting a license in a compact state so that I can then quickly obtain licenses in other compact states if I want to travel there someday. But one of my coworkers informed me that I will not qualify for the fast and easy license dispersion from other compact states. She claims that I would only qualify if my original license was in a compact state. She also claims that obtaining a license in any compact state will take weeks since my original license isn't in with Nursys. I think she is confused about the process, but given her umpteen years as a TN, i thought I should double check with u guys.

It is easy enough to read the facts from the horse's mouth on ncsbn. Original license is irrelevant. All that matters is that you reside in a compact state. If that is the case, you are eligible to have a multistate compact license from that state. Period.

Sure it would be easy, but up until 5 seconds ago, I didn't even knew Ncsbn existed :)

You can only get a compact license if you live in a compact state. If you don't then you can only obtain a single state license even though that state is a compact state. Additionally, if you live in a compact state and have a compact license, but move to a non-compact state then your compact license get converted to a single state license

You could apply for a non-compact license in a compact state and then change your address if your move into that state to be eligible for compact privileges. You can't have a compact license without stating you live in a compact state. Not all licenses issued by a compact state are actually compact licenses. I lived in Ohio when I was originally licensed, applied for licensure in KY for a job. When I had an OH address I was approved to practice as an RN in OH and KY (no compact privileges). When I moved to KY I changed my address with KBON and they approved me for a compact license and could practice in any compact state plus OH. I've since moved from one compact state to another, and as soon as you change your address from your old compact state into a new compact state your old compact eligible license is no more (so you don't update your address with the previous BON until your temporary or permanent license in the new state comes through). Hope this helps.
