Got the unofficial result...it's a fail! I am so diacouraged and lost.I took Hurst review, studied from the videos. When I contacted Hurst they told me that I should have studied the student book;that I needed to know the content "without a doubt and without hesitation." Having heard that I signed up for the remedial review. This time they sent me some questions and and answers that are more indepth and is called "intense review." I am still wondering if I should use the same material since I was unsuccessful? Could it be because I only studied from the videos? I had a lot of questions on things I've never heard of.However,Hurst services, told me that if I studied the book and know the content I will be fine.I don't want to fail for the third time...please help me:confused:

Take their advice. When you finish with that, if you want to put more effort into it, get another review book. Saunders Comprehensive Review is successfully used by many. Another good resource is the prioritization book by Linda LaCharity, and the other one is the Kaplan review book for test taking strategies. You definitely need to do more work than passively watching videos. Good luck.
Thank you!I guess I'll have to read as much as I can in order to pass.

I am sorry to hear that!! I failed mine the first time around and it wasn't until preparing for the second time that i realized that just knowing the content is not enough, you have to know the strategies behind answering the questions. After failing the first time, i was so disappointed in myself, then i took a week off to relax and prepare myself mentally. After that, i went to the library and got the kaplan Nclex strategies book, ordered the LaCharity book and the Exam Cram. The Strategies book helped me learn to critically think about each question, what to look for etc... The LaCharity book helped me with answering the management of care questions ( Med/Surg, OB, etc...) and the Exam Cram help with the content without overwhelming me and the CD is great ( if you decide to buy the Exam Cram, make sure to following every direction) because it helps you with your weak areas and strenghten you more on your strong areas. I passed the second time with 265 questions by using those 3 books.
So take a bit of break then hit the books. If you can afford the books, Barnes and Noble and Borders need to become your bestfriends!! Good Luck!! You can this!! I will be praying for you!!
Congrats on passing the NCLEX! Does it have to the the latest books? I have the Kaplan strategies 2007-2008 edition.I also have the Linda LaCharity-2nd edition.
Thanks.
Does anyone know if I need to order the new books or the ones mentioned above are sufficient? I am currently on Amazon looking.

It's good to have content review, but you also need to be familiar with the kinds of questions will be on the NCLEX. The kinds of questions you get in say Saunders are content questions... I don't know about the Hurst review but Kaplan and ExamCram questions are "NCLEX style". They also teach you how to break down questions to get to the right answer. NCLEX questions do not test comprehension as they already assume you know the content. So make sure first you can answer comprehensive questions and then work on learning how to answer "NCLEX style" questions.

Sorry to hear you failed but I also used Hurst review, Lacharity book, ncsbn questions and kaplan strategies. I am hoping I passed my nclex I am waiting for my results right now but in all I thought the Hurst was really good I studied that book like crazy and I also watched the videos several times and when i got questions on diseases I thought back to what I learned from Hurst. I would use other resources if I were you but I surely would not put that Hurst book aside know that info without a doubt or without hesitation!!! GOOD LUCK:)
Sorry for the late reply!! No it doesn't have to be the new edition. I did compared the new LaCharity book to the 2nd Ed version and not much of a difference between the two except for a couple added chapters. And i used the 2nd Ed LaCharity book. But for the Kaplan, I don't know about the old version because the library i went to had the new version. So if you want to compare go to a borders or BN to check!!
Thanks all! I was not able to log on for the past few days, forgot my password:( Found it in my email. Anyway,I have just received my performance report from the Board of Nursing.I was near the passing standard on 5 of the 8 areas, including management of care.It makes me feel a little better because I did not really study the way that I should.Do you think that is anything to feel better about? silly question,I know, but I need to hear what you guys think. On my first attempt,I was near the passing standard in 3 areas, management was not one of them. I am now below in psych, pharmacology and reduction of risk.
Thanks .
