Need advice

Hello, I just took my Nclex earlier in the week and got my quick-results and failed in 75 questions. I realize that I must have been doing really bad to have failed in 75. While taking the test I was iffy on a lot of questions and didn't feel confident, but while taking the test I got 8 SATAs and about 5 or so put in the correct order. I was actually kind of shocked to see the big "fail" next to my name. I'm really upset that I failed that all of my friends are passing and I failed, ESPECIALLY because I studied for five weeks doing questions from the Kaplan website and NCSBN, but I guess this is one of those learning curves that I have to get over. I took a Kaplan course and feel like I studied a lot and always got in the 50s and 60s. I'm just wondering what people have done to get over the fact of failing and how they have studied to prepare for the exam again. I'm lost because I don't know how more to prepare myself for this test. Any advice would be great. Thanks

I'm sorry you had to go through this, but after taking the NCLEX today...I don't know how you can ever feel fully confident going in. The only thing I can think is that maybe you over-studied? I studied for two days for NCLEX...just doing questions and no content. I don't know if your school does Hesi, but I know I studied super hard for 2 weeks for that...and took the test March 15th, and haven't had a nursing class since then. I know many people who over studied for that test and it took them 5 times to pass. NCLEX is so hard, and you can't feel bad about yourself...everything I thought I knew I was questioning myself on. You will do it the next time :)

I agree! I think many people over study and then get anxiety while taking the NCLEX. I took it on tue this week and it shut off at 96 for me. I was freaking out because I wasn't 100% sure of any of those questions. I had to guess on all of them! I thought I was fully prepared by doing 200 questions a day for a week before the big day. There is nothing to really prepare for these type of questions. The correct interventions we learned in nursing school weren't in any of the options. So my suggestion is to keep it simple. Do not over think the questions. Look for the wrong answers instead of the correct one and do process of elimination leaving the one that seems most correct because the options we thought we learned are not available. Good luck and I hope you pass your 2nd time around!!!

With all the pressure to pass the test, these things happen. My question to you: Do you feel confident about your content and strategy? For you, who studied 5 weeks, its not an effort issue. It may be how you are attacking the test - In my opinion content/patho is important in slowly deciding between the close answers. Based on your Kaplan history it might just have been "one of those days".

DrewNY I felt a little bit confident about my content, or I thought I did before I got my results, but obviously not! I feel as though on tests I've always second guessed myself and maybe I did that more than I realized while taking the test. Thanks for your response, I appreciate it

Thank you I hope so too! Keeping it simple is definitely one of my problems! Thanks so much for your advice, and hope you got good news while getting your results!

My school had ati instead of hesi and I feel like it kind of helped, but I also heard that hesi was better than ati. My fear is that I won't be able to find out what I did wrong and be able to pass it the second time. Thanks for your advice!

Anxiety is one reason you may have not passed but you mentioned not feeling confident on any of the question. While I think that is normal, I didn't feel confident answering any one of the questions on NCLEX, I made it a point not to second guess myself or change any of my answers. I went with my gut feeling and stuck with it. My advice to you when you start studying again is to answer question and check to see if you are initially going for the right answer then choosing the wrong one because you are unsure.

My mantra while taking the NCLEX was "relax, go with your guy instinct, don't change answers!" I said that to myself the entire test

Well I paid for my quick results last night because my friends told me it would be a huge weight off my shoulders for the weekend, instead of waiting for it to post on the state board of nursing website. I paid and it said I passed! woo hoo! I was pretty sure I failed when I left and I did the PVT, but still thought it had to be a mistake.

I heard great reviews about NCLEX Made Incredibly Easy book. It helped many test takers relax while reviewing the material because of the humor written throughout. I wish I had bought that book for review but I had already purchased numerous NCLEX review books (Saunders, Lippincott, HESI, Davies Success...the list goes on) Again... GOOD LUCK!! :)

I love this ^^^^^very gods advice :)

That's awesome!! Congrats!! Also, thanks I'm definitely going to but that book. Did you use a certain prep course or just use those different books that you listed above?
