Hi, there!
I'm an LPN with 2 years experience including Med-Surg (1 1/2 yr), hospice and outpatient surgery center. I loved every minute of hospice and I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy HH.
I was offered a position with an agency that hires by word of mouth only -- there's never an ad on the paper and I was introduced to the office manager by a mutual friend.
Would like to run by you, experienced HH nurses, the offer they made and pls, let me know if it sounds right. I'm very excited about it and need to give them an answer tomorrow (Monday).
- Pay is salaried (21.00/hr considering 40 hrs/week)
- "Official hours" are 8AM to 5PM
- FT with benefits to include medical, dental, 401K
- Flat $400.00/month for car expenses (they don't want to see any receipts or anything like that -- I guess that can be a double-edged sword...)
- Flat $50.00/month for cell phone expenses (same deal as car)
- I'm expected to see 7 patients a day within a geographical location supposedly close to my home (not sure about mileage) -- they mentioned that should I be asked to see a pt out of my area I'd be required to see fewer pts on that particular day
- According to them, visits are mostly wound care, insulin, and teaching
- On-call once a month (not sure yet what that means... will clarify during another meeting tomorrow -- is that 8AM-5PM Sat and Sun? would that be only within my usual area?)
- When on-call I was told I'd get paid $30.00/visit (not sure if I'd get any mileage specific for the on-call period)
Pls, give me any input or advice on this. Also, is it really true what they say about flexibility and being a good deal if you have kids? (I do have children...)
Thank you so much!

Sounds like a good deal. You're getting paid what I get paid and I'm an RN. Although I live in the Midwest, not sure where you live. My agency pays mileage by the federal rate. We get $40.00 a month for cell phones. We only see 5 patients a day (sometimes I see 6, sometimes 3 or 4). Our nurses are union so they have to stick to the 5 patients per day rule. I find the job flexible. But it also means sometimes I'm up late at night finishing charting because I'll wait to do it after the kids are in bed. Sometimes I do this, sometimes I don't.
Sounds like a good deal...let us know how it goes! )

sounds like an excellent deal to me too....your salary is that close to RN, tho don't know where you live, we don't have much on any of the things you mentioned, nurses where i work are paid 39 cents/mile, no phone allowance to we give them cell phones, LPN's are paid $16-17/hr. , on call is limited for LPN's because they cannot do death visits or initial assessment....good luck on monday...let us know how you make out , tell us where you live so we can compare salary
Sorry... I thought my profile that shows on the left-hand side of the screen also showed where I live... I'm in Central Florida.
Thank you guys, SO MUCH, for answering so quick!!
I'll meet with the DON one more time this afternoon, but I already have my packet all filled out and ready to turn in after we're done talking;)
Thanks again so much for the encouragement!
I'll keep you all posted on what happens and how orientation goes (oh, I found out earlier today that orientation is paid @ 17.00/hr and it lasts for 1 week -- 2 days in the office learning paperwork and 3 days in the field with the other gals (1 RN, CM and 1 LPN) who work in my geographical area.
THANKS AGAIN!!! I'M VERY EXCITED!!!! :heartbeat :heartbeat
OK!!! I turned in my resignation this AM:innerconf
I really like my job there, but the pay and the flexibility the HH agency offers me is really a big PLUS for my family.
I had all my questions answered by the DON and will be starting orientation on the 21st.
Thanks again for your input and I'll keep you all posted :)

I may be weighing in a little late, but I think 7 patients a day, 5 days a week is going to be alot. It would seem that because Lpn's cannot do the oasis paperwork, they are going to load you up on the nursing visits. I hope it works out for you. Make sure you speak up if 7 patients start to become further and further apart, unless of course you do not mind.I know they told you that you will have less if you travel more, but sometimes they forget they have told you that.
