Need advice on accerlerated programs

You have nothing to worry about. As long as you meet the GPA requirements and complete all prereq's you will get in. I got into the accelerated programs at NYU, Stony Brook, Adelphi and Seton Hall. And my GPA was barely a 3.0 (actually it was 2.97) and at the time i had not completed chem, micro or physiology. My advice to you is write an excellent personal statement. I don't mean to be pessimistic but this is not necessarily true and could lead to complacency. Just because someone else got accepted at totally differents schools with a 3.0 GPA doesn't mean squat with regard to the schools you're interesed in. Much is going to depend on how you stack up against the competition and how much there is. I got accepted to the accelerated program at Georgia State University with a nursing pre-req GPA of 4.0, an undergraduate (14 years ago) GPA around 3.0, no health-care experience, and good letters of recommendation. However, I only made the waiting list on Kennesaw State's traditional program which fielded over 800 applications. My point is that it's very hard to make generalizations based on different schools admissions criteria. However, to answer your initial question about what you might do. First, make sure you have all of the prerequisites and as many of the corequisites completed before you apply, if possible. This allows the selection committee to assess you on more courses, and assuming you do well in them, will probably give you an advantage over someone that has not completed those courses. Also, if you can take additional courses that show you are motivated, this may be viewed favorably. I ended up taking an extra year of chemistry (for pre-meds and majors) and an additional physiology class. (I only did this because I plan on being a CRNA in the future and not necessary to boost my application but it may have worked in my favor). Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Contact the schools you are interested in. I had a friend that went to the program I was interested in and she said it was super easy to get into. She told me the avg GPA for her class in the pre req's was a 2.7. I looked online at the schools pre req list and decided I needed to redo a chem class cause mine was older than five years. I also took a Dev Psy class and barley did the work and got a B+. I figured it would be no big deal to slack on the classes...(yes, bad habit and OLD habit now :) )

I talked to the advisor and found out I did not need to redo chem (they waved the requirement to have to redo science classes that were over 5 years old) and the GPA for the last two classes had jumped from a 2.8 to a 3.3...

So, my point to all the rambling mess above...not that this board won't give you good info, but, contact the schools you are interested in to get the real scoop. The earlier the better. It could save you time and money.
