NCLEX study tips after being out of school almost two years

Published

Hello everyone!
Long time reader, first time commenter here. I’m looking for some advice regarding NCLEX. I graduated back in May of 2019 and am scheduled to take my NCLEX for the first time in May. I did t study consistently as I had intended to these last almost two years, so I’m rusty as hell on content. So rusty I had to reteach myself normal lab value ranges :(. I have been trying to review using Saunders, but nothing is sticking. My original plan was to do content review February and March, then do UWorld all of April. However, it feels like reading Saunders is a waste of my time because A. I’ll probably never get through it all and B. I’m not retaining the content. I work full time so I’m only able to study a few hours before and after work if I’m lucky. Yet by the time I’m home from work I’m drained and am unable to retain much information. I’m starting to get overwhelmed and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here there! First of all, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! So many people have similar situations as yours and I think you'd benefit greatly from the Free NCLEX Study Guide that I wrote - as mentioned above. Also, sometimes we just need someone to walk us through step-by-step, so if that's something you think you'll need - I am here for you. You can just go to my profile on here to see other articles I've written that can be of assistance, as well as find my website address. You can get in touch with me there!

Hot NCLEX Tip - You don't have to remember everything from school to pass the exam! I've helped so many people learn how to carefully think through the questions so you don't have to feel like you need to go back to nursing school all over again.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

Damion

Please consider signing up for Hurst Live review or Mark K live review. I too felt the same way when I read Saunders.. it seems like you need to get deep into content and then use to Saunders to reinforce any areas you do not understand.

I used UWorld, Mark K, and some Youtube videos to prepare for NCLEX.. luckily I passed my first time but then again I’m a Dec.2020 grad. I think the biggest thing you need to learn other than content is how to answer NCLEX style questions. Which patient is priority? What is priority for the nurse to do in a or exhibiting xyz symptoms. Knowing these thing will really help you understand how to answer NCLEX questions.
