NCLEX Program Code for Military

Published

I am in the Air Force applying to challenge the NCLEX-PN with the NYS Board of Nursing while stationed in California. I have called EVERYONE possible to try to find the program code and nobody seems to know what I am talking about. I event tried researching it but I cannot find anything related, except for other state codes such as IL, TX, etc. Can anyone direct me with the "specialty military equivalency" code for NY? Thank you so much. I cannot wait to test!

I just wanted to share that I found an amazing PDF File online from Ohio and it lists all Military specialty codes, colleges, universities, other programs, etc. I hope you all find this helpful....

Maybe you can't find the code because none exists. How certain are you that New York State accepts military experience in lieu of a practical nursing program education? They may not allow it. I see you are using the credentials LPN after your username, are you an LPN already now? If you are a licensed practical nurse right now, you can apply for an endorsement to your license to work in New York. If you have not graduated from a approved School of practical nursing, not sure that's going to pan out for you.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think CA is the only state that has a licensure path like that. Other states don't honor it even with this type of CA LVN/LPN license

I've done some Googling for you, and it appears Here I Stand is correct. The only state that will allow you to challenge the NCLEX PN, that is take the NCLEX without having graduated from nursing school is California. There are many options out there in other states to apply military time towards a degree, they will take a certain number of credits in account for your military time. However, they all require you to graduate from one of those nursing programs in order to be eligible to take the licensing exam. I guess to wrap it up, if you want to work in California as a practical nurse then you should stay put and follow that route. If you want to work in New York you will need to go through a nursing program there. Good luck.

West Virginia allows this for certain military members: West Virginia Code

I took a look at the link and it looks there is a shortened svenue for advanced practice registered nurses, some other things but not for challenging the NCLEX PN. Is it there and I missed it? I like to be up on stuff LOL, thanks!

You're welcome, and I should have said HUGE screen capture, lol.

New York does allow military members to test out for their LPN. I've had my application to test approved, I'm just trying to find the program code to actually register for the test on Pearson Vue.

"You are eligible to take the LPN exam. When ready to test, pay Pearson Vue $200. Contact us after paying them and you will receive your ATT in your email. You will then have 90 days to take the NCLEX."

Below is the military form for NY.

Form 2AF - Certification Of Equivalent U.S. Armed Forces Education For LPN Licensure

Complete this form ONLY if you are applying for an LPN license based on completion of equivalent education in a program conducted by the U.S. armed forces.

The Office of the Professions will not accept this form if submitted by the applicant.

  • Section I: Complete this section of the form and forward the entire form to the U.S. armed forces program to complete and submit directly to the Office of the Professions at the mailing address on the form.
  • Section II: The U.S. armed forces program must complete this section, sign, date and return both pages of the form directly to the Office of the Professions with an official transcript in a sealed armed forces envelope.

Update: I passed the NCLEX-PN through the NY State Board after submitting my application paperwork and military education transcripts straight from Ft Sam Houston, TX (Registrar Office). Additionally, I have been approved to endorse my license to California so that I can practice here as well.

The link I posted is very helpful for those using military education and needing the "program code" to pay for the Pearson Vue exam. And also, many states if not all states approve military education for 4N0X1 (Air Force) to challenge the LPN/LVN exam. However, the requirements may vary regarding bedside experience and the paperwork needed. Best of luck to all!
