NCLEX-PN study tips

Published

Hi I will be taking my NCLEX-PN soon and I was wondering if anyone knew of good study materials out there? Any study tips? What was your NCLEX like? Any books similar to the actual test?

Thanks : )

I Used Kaplan Nclex-pn 2009 Edition Along With Saunders Nclex -pn Edition 3. I Must Say That Kaplan Taught You Great Strategies . I Felt That Saunders Question Were Mor Like The Questions On The Test. Both Are Good Tools To Use.

Lab values, conversions (kg-lb, oz-mL stuff like that), infection control, delegation. I wasted too much time on disease process. Use the disc that comes with the Sauders book, it will help get you used to the format. And, don't stress when you feel like you failed! I WAY overreacted to that and passed just fine. I found out later everyone from my program thought they failed and they all passed. Good luck!

Great to hear. I take this test in 3 days.

To tell you the truth, NCLEX is nothing like any of the study methods I've used. I used Saunders (3rd edition), Kaplan (PN) review, I did NCSBN review and none of these methods were alike to the actual NCLEX!! NCLEX was the hardest test I had ever taken in my entire life and I got sick just sitting on that hard chair and looking at the screen for 5 hours. I can't explain the misery I went through while I was at Pearson Nclex center. All I can say to you is GOODLUCK and just PRAY! God will take you through this if I can go through it too.

Specializes in LTC, case mgmt, agency.

Lots of good stuff in the Random Facts Thread and Infection Control Thread. Know your lab values and what it will mean to your patient. I also think that Suzanne's Plan is a good route to go. Know at least 5 meds from each med class very well.

:flwrhrts:Good Luck!

Good luck. Let me know how you did :D

I have been studying the NCLEX kaplan book and I really like it : ) Thanks to all the replies.:heartbeat

To everyone,

ty so much for taking the time to post all the tips.

I just took my Nclex today.. i've studied and studied and done tons of practice questions.. i walked in pretty confident knowing that i could prob give it a good try and get enough right to pass... however after the first couple of questions i realized this was not going to be the case... the was almost NOTHING i studied ! it seemed all the questions i got were the exact same and i was not sure on hardly any of them...it shut off at 85 and I know for a fact I got the last one wrong and it was a simple drug question I should have known... what's worse is that after taking it, i don't even feel like I could have studied more for the questions I was given.. needlesss to say i'm SO anxious right now and just feel terrible. No one else in my class has failed and I don't want to be the first but i feel like it's looking that way.. It's like a bad dream.. i just don't know what I'll do if I have to re take it...

I know how you feel. I take mine on Thursday and I have heard it's pretty tough. 3 of my friends shut off at 85 and they passed. Keep praying and that's all you can do. Good luck sweetie!!

thank you so much... i'm dying right now, i'm doing the whole "check for results every half hour even tho you know it hasn't been enough time yet" thing.. hahaha i feel like i'm losing my mind, but another 12 hours and I will know.. best of luck to you.. the best thing i can tell you is just breathe because I got my first question and then the second and wasn't sure about any of it and though "its ok danielle it will start asking thing you know soon" and that never happened and I studied A LOT and was an "A" student in school, i left feeling like no amount of studying in the world would have helped... so just relax and don't rush because I found my self getting aggravated that I was so unsure that I just started guessing and clicking next before I could reconsider.. AGHHHH!! so GOOD LUCK i'll say a prayer for you and i will post how i did for better or worse tomorrow ::fingers crossed for you ::
