what is nclex exactly?

I know that the nclex is the test that you have to take to get your license but what excactly is it>? Do they give you pt situations and then you write down what you're supposed to do in that particular situation? thanks :)

NCLEX tests your critical thinking skills in patient care scenarios. You go to a testing center where you take the test on a computerl. The exam is computer adaptive meaning that the computer decides what level of questions to ask based on your answers to the questions given prior. The computer decides whether you pass or fail and may shut off as early as 65 questions into the exam. There are a possible 265 questions. It is administered in a highly monitored environment.

You will be getting lots of information about NCLEX from your school as your graduation date approaches. Trust me, you'll be sick of hearing about it.

tress. . .here are two links to sample questions that are on the nclex. the first link is from the people who write the nclex test. these are the kinds of questions that are on the nclex. they are called "application questions" that are designed to test your knowledge of the principles of nursing and apply the facts of a situation to principals of such topics as the nursing process, nursing practice, prioritizing and delegating. they are testing your ability to think critically and make rational decisions based on fact.

I took a practice exam last night that had 50 questions and I got 30 right. I havent even started LPN school yet so thats pretty reassuring :) That might be a bad score for a nurse but as I havent even started school yet, I have a little hope now:) Thanks all ,
