Has anyone heard of an effective herbal alternative for ADHD treatment?
My son has ben dx with ADHD and has been on stim. therapy for about 1.5 years now. He is 7 and is very intelligent but his symptoms are so severe that he can't focus on his school work without medication. I really hate the side effects he has and would like for him to be able to function without stim. meds. Would appreciate any replys!!
He has already tried Straterra, ritalin, concerta, and now adderall.
He has a "tic" disorder on all stimulants so far and straterra won't work on the hyperactivity or the attention def.

Hiya
I applaud your concerns in regard to the treatmant of ADD and ADHD with stimulants. As far as herbal remedies I am not aware of any. But I do have a source for you to follow up with.
http://WWW.LetsEducate.org
My wife is a SocialPsychology Grad. In private practice. But check out her website, It will have some good information for you. And please email her with direct questions and concerns and she should be able to help you. She has helped many kids with this problem already and that is without the use of drugs. As we all know physicians are almost indiscriminately putting kids on these meds.
But please contact her and besides her website she can also lead you to some very valued sites to help you with this.
Sincerely
Tom

Hi,
My son is 7 and has ADD, which mostly manifests as impulsivity and a body that's perpetually in motion. He doesn't have a problem with 'focusing" per se.
What has helped us tremendously is Omega-3 fatty acids. I highly recommend a book called The LCP Solution by Nicholl and Stordy.
The particular supplement I have him on is called Coromega, because it's not a big pill to swallow, it's an emulsion that tastes good (orange flavor). They have a website, http://www.coromega.com, if you want to check it out. I will warn you though, it's NOT something that will work overnight....we didn't start seeing a real improvement in our son for 8 weeks. We started him with two doses a day for six weeks, now he takes one a day. I know some other ADD parents that have tried this with great results.....and I take Omega-3's myself, so I feel like I'm giving him something safe and necessary to the body, without side effects.
My son is not on meds. I was at the point of trying them (after resisiting for a long time) when I decided to give the coromega a try first.
good luck!

Cant get that link Andre.
This does interest me.
Therapy helps without a doubt, but this is a real illness and without tx (meds) it will progress.
You dont necessarily need meds. My wife has seen excellent results with the Feingold diet and behaviour modification.
Hmmm there's a comma in my link, no wonder it doesn't work, lol. Try http://www.coromega.com
And yes, I also think therapy and eating whole foods/eliminating additives are also extremely helpful. The coromega is an Omega-3 supplement, so I actually consider it to be part of dietary treatment.
