Does anyone know of a good NA program that I can complete while I wait to get into a weekend slot at GCC for my RN? I'm on the list but know better than to sit holding my breath and figured I should get the NA and get into the field while I wait. I also am working away at my remaining pre-reqs for the BSN . . .
I really would prefer not to be in a nursing home, although I would be willing to do hospice. I checked with GCC but they don't have anyone lined up for evening classes for the fall as of yet . . . wondering what other options are out there, how much they cost, good and bad experiences, etc. I am leaning towards a community college program versus one of the ones some of the retirement centers provide because I don't want to commit to work for anyone for x amount of time. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am starting my CNA program next month at RSAA. It's at Country Club/McKellips.
They offer a day program (3 weeks) evening (5 weeks) and weekends (6 weeks)

I will also start mine at RSAA. I am on the wait list for the July weekends but am enrolled in the October weekends. I have a friend in the June evening program right now and she says it's great!
I will be working in hospice. I volunteer with one and they guaranteed that they would hire me once I was certified. You might want to look into volunteering for a bit before you get your CNA.
Best of luck!

If you get into the July weekends, I'll see you there!

Lucky duck! I am really interested in hospice. I didn't know you could volunteer. Most always I see that you need prior hospice experience.. I guess the volunteering counts as your experience, right?
Good luck!

Thank you. Yes, the volunteer work counts as experience. There is a 40 hour (or is it more like 60) training you have to go through to become a volunteer but it is SOOO worth it. Any hospice is always looking for volunteers.

I am praying, pleading, and begging to get into the July one. Sure would be nice to "know" someone already.

Wow, I'm surprised it's so full. When I called originally, they told me it was full but that they *might* open an extra 10 spots. I called a few days later and they HAD opened an extra 10 spots so I signed up. If it is full, that means that those extra 10 spots are full and they still have people wanting into it! The classroom is super small and I've heard it's pretty crowded with 30 people in there!

When did you register? When I went to register the first time (last month) there were only 4 seats left. At that time I wasn't sure if I was going to get into the CAC one so I waited. I just went this past Monday and registered and paid so I am on a wait list. Is it wrong that I am seriously hoping someone has to drop out before it starts? LOL:chuckle

I signed up around the 2nd week in May? Are you going to CAC for nursing school too? I'm hoping to get in in January.

I am going to CAC for NS. I have a few of pre-reqs though. (well, 2 I guess. The 3 for BIO - 156, 201 & 202 and a few Math) I start those in August. I will apply to the nursing program next summer.

I'm just finishing up my last 2. I'm taking BIO 202 online right now and the CNA course next month.
