Multiple Recruiters?

I've heard from a few coworkers who have traveled in the past that it's a good idea to have at least a few recruiters. So far I'm only talking to one (from Aya). I'm guessing they understand that you may be talking to multiple recruiters and it seems like a good way to get what you want in terms of assignments.

My question is, when you accept an assignment from one recruiter how do you get back in touch with the others that you didn't accept offers from? Do you start making calls when your contract is about to end? Also I was wondering how they give out offers. Do they email you all the terms and conditions of the contract and you accept/decline? Sorry if this has been asked already.

Entirely up to you how to handle communications. But just as you expect them to be professional, communicate honestly, and stay in touch, it is a good idea for you to do the same.

There will be a verbal agreement by all parties to proceed after the interview, but always state that accepting an assignment is contingent on your review of the contract and satisfaction with the terms.

Thanks, Ned. I can appreciate the need to maintain good communication with recruiters. But how soon should I start reaching out to them for new assignments? If I take a 3-4 month contract I wouldn't want to talk to them every week when I'm not readily available to work would I?

Personal style. Some travelers want their schedule locked in far ahead. If that is you, start looking 6 weeks before your current assignment ends. Some of your decisions will be impacted by your recruiter's style. Some may call you about an assignment they know will appeal to you at any time.

If you like to extend, that may push your time frame to look elsewhere forward. If you can handle the stress of not knowing earlier, pay can be much better taking ASAP jobs. But you can also spend a couple of weeks more than you wanted between assignments.

NedRN, question: okay 6 weeks out into your current contract if you are open to renewing your contract with your current hospital, would you not also ask at this manager at this time if they were open to renewing while at the same time going forward to contact recruiters to let them know your availability for another assignment if one is open?

If you are interested in extending, and they seem to like you, absolutely. The more usual issue is they ask you day one before you even know if you like it. But once you know, lock it in!
