MSN Educator Preceptor

Hi-

I am towards the end of my MSN-Educator online program, however now it is clinical practicum time. I am having an extremely hard time finding a preceptor with a MSN to complete my hours with. I live in the Los Angeles, CA area. I have sent emails to schools and cold-called hospitals. It is even harder with everything going on. Does anyone know of someone who may be interested? It wouldn't start until August 2020. Thanks for any help!

I can't offer you help but I'm wondering if you had any luck.  I'm considering getting a MSN in education but one of my concerns is finding a place for student teaching/ practicum.  Most programs are on-line so they aren't local.

Does your online school have any previous students in your area? What about other students you have been in school with? Have you checked with Nursing programs in your area? Health departments? Clinics? Are you working? Hospital education departments? There are many options.

My online program is in a different state than I live and doesn’t have affiliates in the area. The school’s suggestions was to fly to their area for 10 weeks to get the hours in with hospitals and schools they are affiliated with. With everything going on right now- lots of health departments, clinics, even nursing schools did not want to take on students. I think it depends on the area you are in. There are some masters education programs online that don’t require the clinical hours maybe look into those as well if you are worried about the precepting.

Will your school allow distance learning? A virtual practicum experience? I have facilitated several during the pandemic and I could definitely assist. I am a unique Nurse Educator in the sense that I have experience in academia, staff development, and entrepreneurship. Let me know if this could be an option.
