MSN-Ed in 9.5 months!

I just finished the WGU MSN-Ed program. I worked full-time and finished in 9.5 months! Feel free to ask me any questions!

Received my BSN through the University of Texas and honestly after this program, if I had it to do all over again, I would use WGU.

What were the easiest and most challenging courses?

What advice would you give to someone who is researching other programs?

CONGRATS TO YOU!!! :)

Hi there! I have just applied to MSN-Leadership and Management program at WGU. I really love the schedule flexibility of the program and you really can't beat it financially. Did you like the coursework and feel that it has prepared you to advance in the workplace? I guess my only other concern is obtaining the degree from a university of a lesser known name. I also applied to the University of MD, which will take a full two years and cost about 3x as much, but it is a very recognized university. Have you started applying for jobs yet? I know it's the same degree, but I don't want to run into trouble of not obtaining a job due to where the degree came from.

Congrats! I just finished my BSN at Indiana Wesleyan RN-BSN program. I am thinking about going through the WGU MSN education program. I am also interested in how the competency exams are proctored. And, were you able to do your capstone at your place of employment? Did you need a contract? Thanks!

Great job and congrats!!!

Big congrats! It's a huge accomplishment!!

Sorry it took me so long to reply. During this post my mother was in the hospital and then subsequent passed away from sepsis. I am just now getting my bearings.

The Capstone was most challenging. It required so much time for data collection and research then more time to organize it but it was worth it all!

Advice: if you like flexibility and a challenge but DONT just want a degree handed to you, then WGU is your school!

To others who have asked me this as well my reply is always that I wish I had gotten my BSN with WGU. The flexibility is something I was striving for with my BSN because let's face it I am a huge nerd and am headstrong!

This degree from WGU was not just handed to me. I studied and researched and wrote papers EVERY day. I worked for this and feel 100% prepared for the workplace. Give it a shot! You won't regret it!

I had already been working in nursing education at my local college so yes I do feel prepared. As well many of my colleagues started teaching with a BSN just like me and went on to get their MSN. Everyone I work with for the most part used Walden.....since I got mine through WGU and have told of my experience two of my coworkers just enrolled with WGU. Honestly once you have that degree I have noticed that employers around my area pay little to no attention to where the degree came from so don't stress it!

Yes I did my capstone at my place of employment; however, with all the red tape of implementing new policies my supervisor added a little note at the bottom of my consent form saying such. T

Really all that was done was meeting with the supervisor to inform her of my research and get her opinion. According to WGU having the input of the supervisor was adequate enough to proceed wit finishing the capstone. I am scheduled to present my project to all faculty in the fall and it just may make a change!

The proctored exams in the MSN-Ed program were few....maybe 2 or 2 total WGU sent me an approved webcam that I just plugged into the USB port of my computer. They use ProctorU for proctoring and scheduling times were SO easy to come by. It was very easy!

I am so very sorry to hear about your mother. Thank you for all your information and good luck to you! Again, congratulations for your accomplishment!

Thank you very much

I am looking into WGU for their MSN education program. Once I finished the program i would like to teach online or at a facility/College. I'm currently an RN with a BSN working at a hospital.

I do want to keep my options open and maybe look into later on the FNP program and transfer ...I'm not really sure yet.

So my question is once you finish the MSN education program at WGU does that qualify you to be able to get a job in teaching?

I'm very sorry to hear about your mom passing. I lost my mom at the end of March and it's still hard for me... it definitely rocked my world.

I've been looking into that program, too. I do not believe that this degree will qualify to be an educator at a university. I think you have to have a masters degree in education, not just a nursing educator masters. Maybe a doctorate degree will work. I've been looking at job postings at a university in Indiana, where I plan to move back; however, I am not qualified for any of their faculty positions. I think maybe at a community college for an adjunct instructor for clinicals, but I'm not real sure. At this point, I think I'm going to put the masters degree on hold or do the leadership path. Or, I might just wait until I get back to Indiana, since their are projects that need to be done at the workplace. The adviser told me I could start in one state and then transfer my project to another state and employer; but, I am not convinced this would be an easy transition. Good luck to you!
