First of all I am new to this website and I'm hoping someone can give me some good advice....I'm from TX and will be moving to Tulsa in a few weeks when my I get my Ok license. I recently graduated with a BSN and passed my NCLEX and am currently licensed in TX but haven't gone to work yet because I'm moving up there. I was needing some info as to where are good places to work in Tulsa or surrounding area, and if any of you know what the starting salary is up there for a new RN with no prior experience. Where I'm from in TX it starts at 19.68 for new grads. Any help or suggestions as to where I should begin my search for a job in Tulsa would be greatly appreciated!

There are several good facilities in Tulsa. Pay rate should be close to what you mentioned.
Just be sure that you are offered an adequete orientation. Get it in writing.
thanks for the help... I'm not sure what area I want to work in. I really love the fast pace of ER or ICU, but I doubt I'll be able to land a job like that without some experience in med surg or something first!?

There are lots of hospitals in Tulsa that take new grads into ER or ICU. Just apply. Most have great orientations, classes and precetorships.
Starting pay may be $1 or so less than TX, there is state income tax here as opposed to TX so a little more will be taken out of your paycheck. But, the cost of living here is usually less than many places in TX, just depends on which part you're from.
Good luck to you!

My wife used to work at St. Francis and absolutely loved it. St. Francis ED is the designated trauma unit for Tulsa and they also have an excellent Peds unit. Pay is comparable to the rest of the Tulsa area hospitals but considering the cost of living its still good.
St Johns is also a good hospital and if you want ED they have a big & beautiful one that just opened a few years ago.
I love Tulsa and miss it greatly, we moved to Washington to take care of my elderly parents. Once I am done with Nursing School we will return and probably both of us will go to work at Francis.
Tulsa is a great city, I hope you enjoy yourself.
Peace,
Tripps
thanks for the info!

I work at St Johns and love it! They require a 3 month orientation for all new nurses regardless of what department you are in. If you are interested in applying there, PM me and I'll give you my full name as a referral. I always offer to split the referral bonus, which is think is $500 after the person you refer has been there 6 months.

Hi,
Congrats on moving to Tulsa. I just moved back here after being in Colorado for five years. I work as a traveler in OKC. I come to the city work my three days and then back home. Lots of good hospitals here.

If you are an ER nurse and love the interesting stuff, St. Francis is the only Truma 1 in northeast Oklahoma. That also includes northwest Arkansas and southwest Kansas. I used to work trauma there, and the pay in all the hosp. is about average depending on what floor your on.
I agree with St. Francis, worked in ICU there and loved it.
About the ER though.....St. Francis isn't Level 1 anymore, neither is St. John's. They both used to be. The only one in the state is OU Medical Center in OKC.
But, not really that it means a whole lot, there is very little that St. F doesn't take. They still get plenty of EMS/Life Flights from NE and SE Oklahoma as well as western Arkansas and south Kansas.
Thanks for the info guys! I absolutely loved my trauma and ICU rotations. I'd really like to end up there some day!
