Moving

I was just wondering if you can graduate from nursing school, and then immediately afterwards move to a different state, take the NCLEX and be licensed in that state without any problems. Does it matter that your degree is from a different state?

    I graduated from nursing school in TX and then immediately moved back to AZ, where I took the NCLEX. I had no problems at all.

    The NCLEX is national. The Licensure goes from state to state. Good luck. You can hold as many state licenses as you wish to pay for...they love to collect those fees. Just make sure you are aware of the states that require manditory CEU's not all of them do--for renewal every 2 years.

    Some states are part of the compact agreement. That means that if you are a bonafide resident of that state your license it already recognized in about 20 other states. Texas and AZ belong to it. I don't remember which other ones do, but just google nursing compact states.

    The NCLEX is recognized in all states, the states that aren't part of the compact states require additional qualifications (i.e. CEUs) for licensure in that state; so the NCLEX is good in every state. You'll never have to take the NCLEX more than once, unless you let it expire.

    Thanks. I really appreciate it. I want to move the second I graduate, and then take my NCLEX in TN, and get my license there. Can't wait!

    No problem at all. You graduated from an accredited program. Might take a day or two longer to run your paperwork through, but that should be the only inconvenience.

    I graduated in Maine, but knew I was moving to Florida after graduation. I applied to the FL BON for approval to take the the NCLEX, and to apply for a liscence. Since the NCLEX is a national exam, I was able to take the exam in Maine, while receiving a FL RN liscence. Then when I moved to FL a month later, I was all set up to work....also, by doing it this way I didn't have to pay for a ME liscence I wouldn't be using, and then turn around and also pay FL to have my liscence endorsed here :) Hope that helps!!
