Moving overseas

Published

Hello,

I am moving overseas with my fiance who is in the Air Force. We are moving to Germany and I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to get nursing jobs on base as a civillan? I've contacted the base we will be on but it seems as though nursing jobs are hard to come by. I'm a little upset with that. I thought nurses were needed.

If anyone has any information that would be greatly appreciated.

We will be living at Spangdahlem AFB.

Thanks

Well, if you were married you could apply for a GS RN position as a direct hire at the hospital on Spangdahlem.

Well we're getting married this September before we go to Germany. Where can I get the information for the GS position???

Thanks for your help

... contact a civilian nurse recruiter at any Military Medical Ceter to inquire about application for a GS RN position as a direct hire at the hospital on Spangdahlem AFB.

Thank you for your help

Just wanted to add that I worked at one of the DoDDS (American school system) in Wuerzburg back in '95-'98. Each school had a school nurse and many of those positions were filled by military spouses. Also, some of the civilian Docs at the clinics hired nurses, but that pay was VERY low. If you don't want a full-time job, one can substitue for the schools both as a nurse or in a classroom setting. Enjoy your time over there and don't spend too much on Polish Pottery

Thank you very much for the information.

I am looking forward to moving overseas and hope to be able to find a job on base.

Thanks again

We were at Ramstein in 99-01. Loved it! However getting a nursing job was next to impossible. They base alot of it on points. It would be definately easier if you were married, you get a spousal preference. BUT, be careful when you use it - you only get it once. Very political. Things could have changed, good luck. Financially, do not plan on working.

Hi, I know this was posted a long time ago, but there is very little information for nurses wanting to work in American schools abroad and I'd greatly appreciate your advice. My partner has been an elementary school teacher for the past 6 years and he was hoping to get a job in an american school. How feasible would it be for me to get a school nurse position in the same school if we're extremely flexible with location?

Thanks so much for your help!
