Moving to Jacksonville

Published

Hi, Anyone from Jacksonville? I'm moving there in Nov, can anyone tell me about jobs salaries ect? I have been working in Urgent care here in MI and will most likely have to transition into something else. Any ideas or info about Jacksonville jobs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Lori

I have no info about Jacksonville JOBS, but I can tell you anything you wanna know about the city! :D Jacksonville is my hometown, and I miss it terribly :crying2: Oh well. We live in Sanford, FL now... But I can help with good areas of town, good malls, I can tell you how to get ANYwhere in Jax, etc.. lol. :D

 Hi, we'll be moving there right after Thanksgiving, I love Florida but haven't spent any time in Jacksonville. We are moving to the south side of town. I love the beach and we will be close by. I'm kind of anxious about finding a job, because I really love my job here and it took a long time to get it. I'll miss family here but I know we'll be visiting frequently. I have no idea where Sanford is. I'm sure shopping will great in Florida everywhere I've been has great shopping. I sure won't miss the snow. Have a Great Day! Lori :balloons:

Hi there! I'm in Jax. Work in a hospital here. The best paying hospital is Shands. However, you will age 10 years in the first year and definitely wonder why you got into nursing by working there. Altho, I'm sure some like it...I just have a problem working as an RN, CNA, unit secretary all at the same time. Having 8 patients....admitting and discharging them faster than you can think....Next in line for pay is Mayo. Great hospital. Then Memorial Hospital and Orange Park Medical Center (both owned by Columbia). Then Baptist Hospital. Another good hospital and then St. Vincents. Hope your move went well. Jacksonville's a nice city. Been here since 1972. The traffic is bad tho. Good luck.

Hi happyJaxRN, I'm not there yet. We will be on our way right after thanksgiving. Thanks for the info. What's the pay range, I've heard the pay in Florida isn't that great and they don't post it on their web sites. I don't think I'll apply at Shands while I do enjoy getting a good pay check but it isn't worth killing myself to get it. I'd rather be happy! I've been working in Urgent Care so if I go back to being a floor nurse that will be a big change. I love Urgent Care but can't expect to find a job like the one I have. Thanks for the info. I'm glad you told me about shands.

Here are some figures from last year as a brand new nurse and you can kinda go from there. I know Mayo's base pay is $19.01/hr. There's a nurse who has been there for a few years and she's making $23.50/hr plus shift diff and weekend pay. I believe starting pay at Baptist is $18.25/hr and St. Vincents was $17.25/hr. Memorial and Orange Park Medical is more like $18.50/hr.

But since you have experience, these may all be different figures. It just gives you an idea of what they're paying like. All the hospitals in town are hiring. Good luck! :)

I believe Orange Park has increased to 19.00 for grad nurse but I may be wrong... Jacksonville isnt too bad.. weather is good. The schools is Jacksonvile stink compared to clay or st. johns county, not sure if that matters to you. Traffic sucks. Southside is really busy, that side of town is growing very fast... I live in clay county, to the south, and you couldn't pay me enough to live in the city again.. I will drive in to work but gotta get out of there when the workday is over.

Thanks! I was just wondering, some people made it sound as if I would be taking a big pay cut when we moved. Pay here starts around the same so I don't think it will be much different and you guys don't have state tax like we do.

I hate driving in traffic but I guess I'll get used to it. My baby is 21 so schools aren't an issure anymore.

We decided to move into an apartment until we got a feel for the area, then look to buy. We will be on the south side for a while but may settle else where.

Looking foward to sunshine we already had are first snow but in 2 wks we'll be settling in. Thanks again. Lori :)

So, where did you decide?

any clue if there's an increase in salary? I've 2 yrs experience in Med Surg.... how much is the starting?

U still here NursefromNY? I thought you would be out of here already. I noticed this post is from 2005!!
