I apologize in advance if this has already been asked and if it's a bit lengthy.
I will be relocating to FL in the next few months and I applied for the FL RN license by endorsement. I paid the fee, got my NJ license verification sent, did the fingerprinting....but I now received a letter stating that in order for me to hold a multi-state license in Florida, I must provide proof of primary residence in the state of Florida, which I plan to do when I move. What I'm trying to figure out is either:
a) can I get the license, even temporarily, so that I can work right away when I move or
b) work for a period of time under my NJ license temporarily until I provide the proof of residency (which I would do immediately) or
c) do I have to wait to work?
I did send a message to the board of nursing but their response was not clear.
Thank you in advance!

I think you can get a single state license in Florida if you don't have residency there. Someone who knows more about the nursing compact than me can probably chime in but the only reason you have to prove residency in Florida is for your license to be recognized as a multi-state license. You aren't required to reside in Florida to be licensed there. There are plenty of telemedicine nurses/CMs who are licensed in Florida who probably never set foot in the state, I'm sure. New Jersey is not a compact state so you cannot work in Florida with your NJ license.

You will probably have to get a single state Florida license first since you don't have residency yet. I did that while I was still living in NY and had it in hand when I moved down here. You can't temporarily work under another state's license. I would do that for now, and then if you decide you still want the compact license I would upgrade once you move here.
Thank you so much, I sent them a letter stating I'm only applying for a single-state license. Crossing my fingers that does the trick!

Hi there-I am in the same boat as you. Any updates on the single state license ? I do not belong to a compact state (currently licensed in California). I start a job in FLA next month. It's been a month and I still haven't heard anything so I'm getting concerned. I believe I saw on the board website that any RN licensed in US can practice for up to 60 days once employed. Any insight anyone has would be helpful! Thanks so much !!

Hi there,
I plan on moving to FL from MN in the next few months (I already have FL single state nursing license, my sis lives there I've been visiting every few months) Anyhow, my question to you is...
1) How close to your move did you start applying for jobs?
2) How did you handle interview situation?
Video/phone or you fly down for in person?
Would really love to hear others' experience with this...
Thanks

Did you ever move? Could you answer your own questions for.e? I'm planning a move. Ext Summer and want to apply for RN positions paying for relocation and have no idea when to apply or how long they will give me to relocate. Thanks!
