Move to Seattl

Published

Hi everybody, thinking about making a move to Seattle. I'm an ADN RN, currently work in CV/thoracic surgery periop in the midwest. I was previously a high school teacher, for about a decade, and my current unit is the only place I've worked as a nurse. We have a pretty nice level of independence and have a lot of influence on pt care where I'm at. It's a pretty high profile surgical program that we're a part of and we get shipped a lot of pts from the surrounding areas and manage VADs and heart transplants for the area as well.

So my question is this; I love my unit but am pretty dissatisfied with the WHERE portion of my little personal bubble. I've been thinking a lot of making a move to Seattle but I have no idea what the market is like there for nurses and if I'd be able to find a comparable job to where I'm at now. My current pay is middle of the road, not that I'm unhappy with it, but the unit itself is really pretty great. I do have a bachelors degree from my days as a teacher and am fully aware of the impending need for the BSN completion. Am I out of luck in Seattle until I finish it or do you think there's a possibility of finding a CVICU job if I at least have it started? Other thoughts? Thanks in advance for the help.

Most of the hospitals in the Seattle and surrounding area are hiring ADNs, but will require you to obtain your BSN in anywhere from 3-6 years, depending on place. I wish you luck, and hope you love Seattle!

Hi, I worked at UW in the Cath lab. Very busy heart transplant program. Downside pay less than Swedish and overlake. The WSNA website has contract and pay for RNs based on years exp by hospital. Commuting is big factor to consider. Let know if you have other questions!

Hey skip219,

I'm from Hawaii and just accepted a new grad position at Overlake in Bellevue. Trying to look for a place around where I could take the bus it to work as I plan to bus it to work. Any suggestions?

Hey Jake,

I went to Nursing school in WA at LWTC in Kirkland. Washington is gorgeous this time of year. I saw this post after just talking to my daughter Summer. She's working for a travel nurse agency that is looking for nurses in and will travel to Washington State. Very pro nursing agency great past, first day insurance 401k great pay etc etc . They will help with licensing travel etc. What their Nurse's got for Nursing Week made me jealous lol. It's a great way to taste different units and hospitals and find one that fits. If you are interested call or email Summer Frost recruiting consultant with Republic Health Resources [email protected] or 817-873-0391

Bellevue has many places to live, Kirkland is close too and nice bus times have changed in the past few years but you can usually get a bus to and from most places in the Seattle area. If you live in the city it can be expensive but fun

I have seen places in Kirkland and the bus ride to Bellevue does not seem bad at all. I've visited Seattle a couple of times and Capitol Hill looked like a nice place to de-stress after work and meet new people. Any areas in Seattle that I should try to avoid?
