I just posted a thread about how I signed up for a completely online chemistry class only to find out last week that I would have to travel a pretty good ways to complete the lab requirements, and tests. It stated in the class information that the class was all online.
I am also taking a class called end of life issues on Friday mornings which is required for the nursing program I want to get into. I ended up signing up for a Chem class on Tuesday, and Thursdays which meets in the morning. I talked to one of my sons classmates parents, and they agreed to take my son to school if I picked their kids up.
Well today I get an email that somehow the End of life issues classes had been overfilled by 18 students, and unless 18 people agree to move to a new Wed afternoon class (during the time I pick the kids up) they will be cancelling the Friday class altogether. Something about fire codes. How did this happen? Who allowed it to get overfilled? This is the only end of life issues class offered in Dallas Community College district. I signed up for this class the first day we were allowed to register and this does not seem right. It seems like they would allow those who registered first to stay, and those that overfilled to go. Or better yet move to a bigger room. Have any of you ever heard of such a thing? It's a week before school starts.
Update....
I had decided to wait, and see what happened. This class was very important as it's one of the few that I still needed to apply to the program. At the same time this is the campus where I want to attend the nursing program, and this is a nursing class. I was afraid if I complained that I could step on the wrong feet, or make enemies before I was even accepted. I had basically decided to sacrifice the battle to win the war.
Anyway, this morning emails were flying. The other 47 students in the classes were emailing the instructor, and cc the emails to everyone else. It was almost funny!!! Some students were saying that they registered in the first few days, and that the 16 who were allowed in over the allowed amount should be put in the other class. Those 16 were saying that wasn't fair because even though they were late registers they were given a spot too. One international student said if he doesn't have 12 credit hours this semester he will lose his student visa, and be sent back to his country. Someone else pasted a letter they has sent to the Dean. It was crazy !!!!
In the end ...I just got an email, and the teacher rescended her statement that she would cancel the class, and found us a bigger room to have the class in so all 48 can stay.
Alls well that ends well.

That's not right, if you registered for the class the first day it was offered then you should be able to take the class still and those 18 extra people should have to wait until next semester and I would bring this to the schools attention and that you should not pay for someone else's mistake. I wish you good luck and i hope you get to take the class:) :nurse:Nurses Rock!!!

My goodness...I just can't believe your luck this semester. Seems like if it isn't one thing it is another. I know how DCCCD can be. I am so glad that it worked out for you and that you didn't have to step on any toes yourself. Nothing like being stressed from school before it even begins. Here's to a good semester! :biere:

Wow thats horrible. If the gen. ed or pre. req courses are treated this way at your school, imagine how the nursing classes would be treated. OUCH!!!
I have been going to Dallas County CC this whole time, and have never had these sorts of problems until now. I even signed up for my classes the first day of priority registration so everything would be squared away. Geezzz... well I hope this before school fun isn't an indicator of what my semester will be like LOL.
