A grant from the Dept of Education is accessible to nursing students in the state of Florida. I have attended an informational session and I do qualify for such aid. The program pays for tuition, books, 2 uniforms, 1 pair of shoes, a stethoscope, NCLEX fees, KAPLAN NCLEX review, $25 gas card monthly, child care, etc.
A personal friend of mine just finished nursing school and it was all paid for. There are a few criterias (make less than a certain amount of $ per year, US Citizenship or permanent residency, grades, acceptance letter, et al) There is NO committment to stay in the state or work for any entity whatsover. It is there for the taking. If you are interested let me know. I go tomorrow to officially sign onto the program.
Good luck!!!!

I would also be interested. Thanks for passing on the information.
You must have been accepted to a nursing school or already attending a program from a STATE school or other approved institution (FAU,BCC,MDC-these are colleges/universities in South Florida) The program is administered by WorkForce One and the name of the program is the WIA. The webpage for the one in Broward county is WorkForce One. The contact name in Broward is Michelle Hardy (WIA program). You may want to google to find the closest Work Force One in your area. **This is a FREE program provided by the government to subsidize your studies in nursing. Many, many other careers are included as well** If you have any questions, feel free to email me @ [email protected]

I was able to get this program for LPN school and it was a blessing. It may not be the exact one though, bc I did have to pay for books and uniforms and there was no extra money for gas, etc....but I know there were girls in my class who got that program (the ones with children). It was thru Workforce Central FL. I would recommend everyone check into it. Even if you dont qualify for grants, you may still be able to qualify for the program. I was able to because once I started school, I had changed jobs to a part time job so my income was significantly less. They accepted my check stubs as proof of income so that I could qualify even though my taxes from the previous year showed me as making too much. Definitely check with your local Workforce office and also the financial aid dept at your school. If you pay taxes, you deserve to be able to take advantage of resources such as this.

If you don't mind me asking, do you know what the income cutoff is? I make an average annual income right now working fulltime (no kids), but I plan to quit and not work at all if I get into an accelerated BSN program as I hope to.

here's the link although it does not really say much about requirements: AWI - Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Program
I went to a Dade county workforce office and right now they are not accepting application until January because they told me funds are not available.
I just went to the below link and did a search for eligible occupations. It appears to me that this program is available only for PNs because after I selected "Nursing," I had to choose which type of nursing assistant. RN was not on the list. I hope I'm wrong about this, I could sure use free money. Somebody tell me if I'm wrong.
Here is the link:
Florida's Eligible Training Providers
Nevermind! There is also a selection for "Health Diagnosing and Treating Practioners," and RN is listed under there....FYI.

You have to go to Health Diagnosing and pick nurse from there.
