I keep hearing about all this money out there for nursing students but I can't find it! lol I'm writing essays up the wazoo for things on fastweb but I'm worried about what we are going to live on while I'm in school. I would really prefer not to work while I'm going to school. I'm a single mom and I don't see my kids enough as it is. I need some reassurance that it can be done without having to hit up the food bank.

I know what your saying but you might try the dept. of education for your state.I start the LPN program in Oct and changed jobs so that I work 16 hour shifts only on Sat and Sunday andI am full time. It's hard but I have to work to feed my kids.I have not had a lot of luck finding that money either but they say it's out there.Good luck and keep trying.

Geez, we are in the same boat. I have written so many essays and applied everywhere and even with a 3.85 GPA haven't gotten a penny. I don't have children so maybe that is part of the reason. Well good luck to you and keep looking. Let me know if you hit a mine

Where IS all this money that we keep hearing about? I hate to be cynical but things like fastweb, the Johnson+Johnson site, etc. have yielded nothing for me. I have a masters and a 3.7 GPA and am applying to second degree BSN programs. Oh, another problem with getting a second bachelor's is that I've find that I'm ineligible for many scholarships. Or, they want someone straight out of high school or a nursing student already in a program.
For fastweb, I wish the essays for the different scholarships were similar. I mean how many 500 word essays can I think of? lol
The Johnson and Johnson site had nothing for me yet... I wish my current boss would let me work part time. Maybe she'll have a change of heart by the time school comes around.

I got a scholarship at a local hospital. Had to prove my GPA, write an essay, interview, and a few other things. Its not easy to find one but keep looking cause the money is out there.
I'm sure there is, just that most of us don't qualify or you have to jump through so many hoops it's unbearble
I'm willing to jump...just give me a hoop to jump through! My current department caps out at $14 and some change...I can't keep living on that.
You think you have it bad....try minimum wage in the richest state of the country! (willing to jump the hoops as well, just can't find any) :stone

Everyone keeps telling me to get a student loan. Well my school doesn't participate in the federal student loan program and with my credit, a private loan is out of the question. *head spins*
I get a pell but it will not cover it all, especially since it's gonna take me about $60/wk to purchase gasoline to get to and from school. I live about 75 min. from my school and 90 min from clinical site. I've wrote essay after essay as well.......well if I hit the lottery I'll let ya know~ :)

I too have qualified for the Pell, but for the upcoming Fall Semester I finally had to bite the bullet and take out a Student Loan. At least with the loan it also helps me with buying books.
I'm currently working, which helps, but I realize once I am accepted into clinicals I won't be able to keep up with a full time job. It's a scary thought since I won't have no other income. After a lot of research and talks with financial aid counselors I don't see much help out there. My college does offer campus work to earn money, and they do try to work around your schedule. I'm not sure if all colleges offer this or not..For me, it may have to be an option.
