Found out today that peds home health is not for me. Love the kiddos, but bored and often feel like a babysitter. One of my clients ( who is oriented and alert, just has physical disability) is a completed and total brat ! He hits his mother, talks back, and is super spoiled. I'm going to stick it out as I don't have any other jobs lined up at the moment, just needed to vent. Hope I didn't offend anyone, its just been a rough day.

There is nothing perfect about most jobs. That is why it is called work. Hopefully the next job will be better. That is about all one can hope for.
You are right. I did enjoy school nursing, I wasn't a nurse but a home health aide but they didn't have any positions for LPNs. I also enjoy working PRN at methadone clinic. I enjoyed working on a TCU but was asked to leave that unit because I refused what I thought was an unsafe assignment. I think I will enjoy OB nursing. I know no job is perfect but there were a few that I really liked and if I could would work there part-time while in school. I'm just having a rough time...

I feel the same way...I'm a babysitter that gives meds! I'm bored out of my mind. This would be the perfect job if I was in nursing school because i would have soo much time to study, but now that I'm finished, really what am I supposed to do on a 9-12 hr shift when my pt is sleeping the whole time! ahhh I would be happy to go back to school just so i could study or do something while im at work, but i cant even get into a msn program without some different experience that this! k i feel a little better now getting that out!:)
Feel free to let it out. I feel the same way. Thank goodness I'm still in school so I can still study while I work with this one particular client.
Hopefully another opportunity will open up for us.

I too did extended care for quite a while. I loved it at first, but quickly became bored due to above mentioned reasons. I wanted a job that challenged me and that I could use all my skills. I stayed as long as I did because of studying for my RN. I am now thankful that I had that experience but would not go back to extended care if I had a choice - I love being a field nurse/case manager....I am definitely NOT bored and do use a variety of skills all the time and continue to learn on a daily basis. Good luck to you guys!!
Thanks for commenting. I honestly can't wait to get my RN so I can have more options. I have very limited options right now, so home health it is. I would love to do visits in the future.

So gladd to hear other nurses feel like babysitters too! And are also bored out of their minds lol. I thought I was alone. I have been doing PDN nursing for almost a year now. It is my first and only job as an RN. I have applied to hundreds of other more challenging nursing opportunities and have not received one interview. I did get a lot of rejection emails lol I really want to use my skills, see the sun shining and know what it is like to have coworkers who I can communicate with on shift.
You are not the only one. I can even deal with a little bordom since I'm in NS and can review my notes. I'm just not the type that want to "play" all day. I do the best I can but this particular case I'm working is not cut out for me.
I'm grateful that today will be my LAST day working with this particular client. Can't wait. I pray he finds a nurse that can better meet his needs, I can't.
