Misdemeanor theft

I am currently in college still taking my prerequisites. I'll be applying to nursing school in April. However, 2 years when I was not in a good place I got caught stealing and ended up with a misdeameanor theft charge. Do I have any chance of getting into nursing school? I am in Louisiana if that makes a difference.

I would worry more about getting licensed if you do get into school. Some people graduate only to find out that they can never actually work as a nurse.

Every case is different, but BONs tend to be softer on "youthful indiscretions " in the distant past than recent crimes or crimes committed well into adulthood. Hopefully you're very young and in the process of making yourself look wonderful on paper.

You may get into nursing school but may not be able to attend clinical or get licensed. I would make sure you look into everything before you invest all the time and money. Best of luck!

This is very true. Your case will depend on if you were caught stealing drugs or shoplifting at Target. Neither will probably have a favorable outcome. It depends on your age at the time of the crime.

Google "Nurse Practice Act Louisana" it maybe more helpful than calling the Board. They will most likely tell you that each case is decided on a case by case basis.
