hi, i am a newly grad nurse from uk and looking for some advice on working in canada. I would appreciate if someone can help me out with some info on the canadian reg. examination.

hey, i just replied in your other thread... but i'll copy and paste it here for you as well...

you might want to start by looking up the Canadian Nurses Association... they're the ones who write the National Registration Exams that are given by each province... their address is http://www.cna-nurses.ca/

you can find a fact sheet on the exam on this page...

for a prep guide (you need to go to the 2nd page of the catalogue under "C"), you can order one from the CNA which also comes with a CD-rom practice test... they also have an online practice test available now, but for a fee... some people also recommend an NCLEX study guide, but the exam format is really different from the Canadian exam...

here's a link to the CNA's page for foreign RNs wishing to practice in Canada...

do you know where you'd like to live in Canada? because each province has different entry to practice requirements... in several provinces, you must have a degree to enter practice... Ontario & Alberta, for example, require all applicants after December 31, 2004, to have a BN/BScN to be able to register... some already require degree education only and some accept diplomas still...

sounds like you'll be able to nurse anywhere in Canada with your degree... :)

any ideas where you want to live yet? or are you just starting to explore the possibilities?

umm... actually i am hoping somewhere either in bc or in alberta as my fiance is from there (edmonton, alberta) and would finally like to cut the distance that keeps us apart a bit shorter! i was just browsing the websites u suggested. am trying to book myself a place for the exam in aug...so thanx for the luck....it seems i will need it!! :)

seriously, if you have a good basis in nursing theory, the exam will be a breeze... i found a lot of the questions to be common sense...

if you're looking to go to Alberta, you'll be in luck... the job market for nurses there is just booming... i've just got a great job in Calgary after looking for less than 1 month (we're moving on Tuesday!)... Edmonton's job market looks to be even better... they seem to want nurses so badly that most advertise "New Grads Welcomed"...

BC's a gorgeous province... i could see why you'd want to live there...
