Microbiology online or class format?

Published

I am a SAHM I am wondering if I should take microbiology online or I class. This is my last pre Req before applying to nursing school. I have done ok in AP online 1&2. Any thoughts?? Thank you so much!!

Depends! Did you like taking A&P I & 2 online? What grade did you get out of the class? Maybe you could do better if you had a class setting. I prefer a class setting but that's just me.

I took microbiology online at Cayuga Community College...it is a SUNY school (state univ of NY).

I had a great experience. It was a lot of work due to the lab component. Totally doable though, as long as you complete the labs weekly. It is easy to skip one here and there and talk yourself into catching up...avoid that!

You purchase a lab kit, everything you need is in it except a microscope.

The instructor asks you to place a specific object like a cup or ring in the photos you take of each lab to verify you are the one actually completing it. The experiments were actually in some cases, fun. While some were more complicated than others, they were definitely manageable, as long as you practice good time management because several experiments build on each other; like you have to complete number 4 and 5 to do 6...and so on.

Any which way it beats sitting in a college lab from 6-9:30 pm every week!

It was a great course and I recommend Cayuga for all prerequisites.

I normally love online classes, but microbiology is a VERY "hands-on" type of class. So I vote for the classroom setting...or maybe a combined online and classroom setting if that is an option.

i did ALG online thru cayuga......great experience for my first online class......but i did the sciences in a classroom...looked into micro..but when i saw the price of the lab kit and what i needed....i decided to go to campus....

goodluck....i am taking micro now and its my last science co-req for nursing...so when i start nursing in the fall all i have are the actual nursing classes....

It depends on your learning style. I get more out of a class when I'm in the classroom/lab vs. at home in front of the computer. Some courses, I have no problem doing it at my own pace. However, for lab-based courses, you really get more out of it being in the class/lab. Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth :)

If you have someone to watch your child, I would do the on campus micro. I know that all the nursing programs in my area require at least the labs to be done through an on campus site. I find that sometimes its easy to have a scheduled study timeaway from home, otherwise there is just too many distractions.

Hi, I am also interested in taking A&p 2,micro and chemistry online for this summer. I took the classes before but my classes are 2 old. Can you help me, my email is [email protected].

I took Micro online at SPC. I didn't need a lab kit. We did have experiments with items you could purchase from the grocery store. I bought pH paper only because I didn't want to make my own.

Personally, I like the online classes. I've taken all my prereqs online.

Again, it just depends on the type of learner you are. :)
