Transcript on hold
Some colleges (not many) but there are some, especially community colleges that don't require every transcript. That being said, look on the application and see what it says, does it say to supply all transcripts? Is there a blurb about not withholding transcripts? If so, you have to supply them all because it can show up on financial aid records or if its a large enough school it could be on the National Student Clearinghouse. Also, you absolutely have to put all colleges down when applying for your license because that is definitely fraud if you do not. The fact is that it may not come up any which way but do you want the stress of carrying this secret? It is best to be honest and explain the situation. You may have an admissions counselor that won't see this as an issue.

Feeling down and out about Nursing school
I am going into my last semester of a two year RN program. The one thing that truly motivated me during this long, sometimes grueling journey, is focusing on the field of nursing that excites me. In my case its pediatrics. Focus on an area that gives you that feeling of "I want to be doing that." There are so many options; hospitals, offices, legal nurse consulting...picture yourself in a place that excites you and hold onto it. I know so many great people, clinically strong students who will make great nurses someday that did not pass this last semester. Receiving a "B" or "C" is not a bad thing at all..be proud you passed, truly!! It is so easy to feel overwhelmed and unmotivated, I think it is a nursing school requirement...it happens to us all..just keep on keeping on! A year ago I never thought it would end..now just 15 weeks left!!!! That will be you too!!

VA hospital- clinical
Hello! I am about to start a rotation at the local VA hospital...well at least I hope so! Typically I try to stay out of the usual panic amongst nursing students, but in this case it was really difficult to do so. Our class filled out the dozen pages of paperwork to gain admittance into the facility the other day and everyone was in overdrive with worry about it. One student was actually crying over the fact that she attempted nursing school before and was unsuccessful, now she is so worried she will be judged on that. I have never been involved in crime, never fired from a job, nor disciplined in any way. Even so, the conversation surrounding the paperwork has casted doubts on passing the test, so to speak. People were saying they can reject you for grades, attending too many schools, traffic tickets..honestly is this true?! I have an A average in nursing school, but that certainly is not the case at my first college, 10 years ago! Anything that can shed some insight on this would be appreciated!!

Major anxiety over first clinical
The first week of nursing school was one endless orientation after another. Honestly 14 hours+ of listening to the same thing repeated over and over again. I am sure I will want to return to orientation as soon as clinical starts. I am SO worried about my first clinical. Bed baths are my main anxiety. I know that seems really silly but what if I get a man? What if the patient is so dirty I cannot tolerate the condition, smell etc (heard horror stories from seniors who rotated through the nursing home). I am doubting this and it has barely started. All this anxiety over a bath? ANY advice/stories would be appreciated!

School using TEAS as assessment exam?
I had to take the TEAS as a means of assessment at my school (Maria College), I took it last week. We were told if you placed proficient, advanced or exemplary the grade would be used as a test or assignment grade. Those who scored below proficient will be required to attend study groups and extra help sessions..a low score typically means less success in the program, according to our administration. I was so worried about the exam and I scored advanced...truly was not that bad. Purchase the ATI manual, it was super helpful..good luck!
-
Chemistry on the TEAS V?
I did not have any Chem on my Teas test.. I took it last week. The tests obviously vary so a general knowledge of all subjects is important. The ATI manual is definitely enough. I found it to be the MOST valuable resource, much more than any other book, I bought every one. One word of advice; I spent so much time and effort studying math and science that I did not focus at all on the punctuation aspect of the test. Clearly math and science are major parts of the exam, but in my case not reviewing when to use semicolons vs. dashes, etc, meant a difference between scoring advanced and exemplary. Good luck!

Obamacare Survives, Supreme Court Rescues 'Big Health'
I cannot speak to how many bankruptcies occur due to clerical errors in not obtaining the proper referral. Also, I am not sold on the fact that the bill will foster specialist networks and myriads of choices.. I suppose time will tell. I plan to download a copy of the bill as noone really knows of everything that is in it, truly. As far as actual bankruptcies, hospitals throughout the country take a significant financial blow on debt that is not reimbursed by the federal government for charity care rendered by such hospitals and physicians. This results in hospitals filing for bankruptcy, health care professional lay offs, and has contributed to the downfall of community hospitals in the USA. The profit margin for our local hospital is 1%..there is not a whole lot of leeway there. If current costs cannot be covered federally, additional costs rendered by providing insurance to those who cannot afford it will be placed on current insurance consumers=higher premiums and likely just as much if not more hassle.

Obamacare Survives, Supreme Court Rescues 'Big Health'
My husband is an orthopaedic surgeon. He has seen many patients from Canada. Such patients have chosen to leave their country and have surgery here because they have been on a waiting list for two years or more, to have a hip or knee replacement. The patients are in pain and cannot ambulate freely or live an active life. Unfortunately surgery is not available to them because their age or particular diagnosis is not a priority. Many of these patients are in their 40's and told they will simply have to wait. Unable to contend with their condition, they come to the states and pay out of pocket.

Accepted into an RN program!!! How do I prepare?
As soon as you know what text book the nursing courses you are taking use, buy it! When you know the name of the professor you could email and ask what chapters the course starts with...then start reading! Sometimes you can locate the previous semesters syllabus online.Certainly vital signs are a theme in your first nursing course...practice on your family/ friends and make sure you have those down. Med dosage calculations can be a challenge at first...you could by a guide on that...it is never too early to familiarize yourself with dosage calculations!

Im new here..... warn me
You could consider taking prerequisites online. SUNY Cayuga has Anatomy and Physiology I and II as well as Microbiology with lab - 4 credits each...they have other sciences as well. I took each one. They are not easy A's. It takes a lot of self direction and dedication. The benefit is you do not have to leave your home and you can work on it any time of day. Tests are timed as are quizzes and the lab component for Micro is rigorous but again you are home and not in a lab for 3 hours a week. It is a SUNY school so there should be no problem transferring...although always check before registering. My transcript does not list online course...there is no differentiation.

Microbiology online or class format?
I took microbiology online at Cayuga Community College...it is a SUNY school (state univ of NY). I had a great experience. It was a lot of work due to the lab component. Totally doable though, as long as you complete the labs weekly. It is easy to skip one here and there and talk yourself into catching up...avoid that! You purchase a lab kit, everything you need is in it except a microscope. The instructor asks you to place a specific object like a cup or ring in the photos you take of each lab to verify you are the one actually completing it. The experiments were actually in some cases, fun. While some were more complicated than others, they were definitely manageable, as long as you practice good time management because several experiments build on each other; like you have to complete number 4 and 5 to do 6...and so on. Any which way it beats sitting in a college lab from 6-9:30 pm every week! It was a great course and I recommend Cayuga for all prerequisites.

RN program not accredited
I just transferred to an Associate's RN program, it is a hospital affiliated school. I have advanced placement in Nursing IV and will be done by the summer. I just found out the school is not NLNAC accredited, although they have future plans to become accredited. A fellow student told me the school said this over a year ago in a different class. Is this a deal breaker? If the school becomes accredited after I graduate, will my program fall under that? I am unsure what to do...should I seek another program? I am in NYS Thanks for any info!

Online microbiology-cayuga community college vs. Exelsior exam
Hello, Has anyone taken online microbiology at Cayuga? I was planning on taking it until I was told (from someone who "knows someone") that it is messy and involves stacks of petrie dishes, e coli, and various other not so pleasant things. Is it really that bad? I am trying to decide between that and the Excelsior exam...which I heard is awful as well. What truly is the better option?!?! Thanks for any input!
