Memorial Hermann GN Residency Program Spring 2015

Published

This thread was created to share information for Memorial Hermann GN Residency Program for Spring 2015. Good luck to everyone!

Is the fellowship a new thing? I'm honestly looking at this as a joke, they're trying to pay us minimum wage?

it has been going on for at least 2 years at Memorial Hermann (maybe more??). I know other hospitals do them also.

Which would you rather, a 6 month internship that gets you great experience and a high probability of a job (and you do get a stipend), or searching for a year with not job in sight?

I understand this is a good opportunity. I also think its exploitation of how desperate some new grads are in finding a job in big places like Houston. 1500 a month is honestly is minimum wage, an apartment is at least 700 a month unless its in the scary part of town. That doesn't include gas, and food for when you're not working. Also theres a 500 registration fee? They might as well not give us allowances for parking and uniforms. Sorry I'm a complete debbie downer here. I just think its a bit much after all we're paying for school, nclex, rent, and graduation.

Do they do any relocation assistance ?

I also applied for the new grad position! Good luck!

Got an invitation for Match Day today! Very excited about this good news!

Congrats on getting a Match Day invitation! I also got one for tomorrow. Do you have any idea if this will be a group interview or one interview to a panel of interviewers?

The graduate residency is different than the fellowship right...I recently applied to the program. Still waiting to hear back.

I doubt it. From those who have received jobs as out of state applicants those that I know had to pay for moving expenses. You can write it off on your taxes though.

The residency and the fellowship are different. The residency leads to a job and the fellowship is like a "try it out and see if you like it" opportunity.

I went to match day yesterday and received a callback today for another interview on the unit, ortho trauma. So keep your phones handy! :)
