It's natural to second guess yourself. You have worked for years to finish nursing school and this test is a major part in your future. It would be almost UNnatural to not be nervous about it. As for the 85 questions, I can't say how you did. With this test you either did well enough to pass or you didn't. Relax and stop dwelling on it. You can't change the past. Take some deep breaths! I started with one year. I worked on a surgical unit but was frequently floated within the hospital including pediatrics and intermediate. I got my first assignment to a magnet hospital in their pediatric unit. The staff was awesome and taught me a lot as I dealt with some things I was not exposed to before. Unfortunately I worked with another travel nurse there who had worked for years as a nicu/peds nurse who had some issues with drip rates and setting up tpn. Good luck!

I also thought about using a professional service. I chose not to (too expensive!). I recently rewrote my resume since starting working as a nurse. I wrote the resume on my own and was able to get calls for 2 interviews in departments that I have been desperately wanting to get into (ER and ICU). I scoured through numerous resumes and I wrote my own using the information that I gained from all the research. AllInRN also made a good suggestion by using career services (if you are a student). I believe that you are able to write an effective resume without having to shell out the money for it! It just might take a little bit longer than you want

I do some work for Occuvax. It took a few weeks for them to send me my check but everything was legit. I worked with another nurse for a company sponsored clinic and it was pretty busy. The time went by fast and it was easy money. Good luck!

Congrats on your new job! We had 12 weeks orientation when I started. The first week was pretty much all classroom then I started on the floor. I work a on a post surgical unit although we do get some medical patients at times. I am just coming up to my first year! I can't believe it's been a year already. Don't get me wrong...there are still days when I question why I ever became a nurse. But then we have those moments with certain patients and it puts it right back into perspective. If you are going to be in classroom, # 1 rule...stay awake! Classroom portion was extremely boring and drawn out. However, on the floor, ask lots and lots of questions. It may make you feel stupid sometimes to keep asking certain questions but always try to learn from every experience. Kate

Congrats! It's a great feeling! When I was accepted to nursing school I quit my job 4 months before school started. LOL. I loved it!

I love 12 hour shifts! However, at my current job, I work 8 hr nights and it isn't as terrible as I thought it would be. As long as I work 8 days within the 2 week period, I still keep my FT status. My nights go by pretty fast so I can't complain right now...especially since I am getting older!

Thank you to both. I think part of my uneasiness is due to starting a new position in a new career. I dont handle it well when I am in the position of not knowing what I'm doing. I plan on getting as much as I can out of this job and just growing as a new nurse. As for the PALS, we do not have pediatric patients but I chose to take it just as a learning opportunity. My fiance paid for both so I cant really turn down free certifications. Lol. Although I wont have any pediatric patients right now it could change later in the future.

Congrats on starting nursing school! For me, the first 5 weeks were spent getting to know classmates and instructors, reading, practicing skills, studying, and trying to get yourself organized! It took me 2 years to figure out how to take a nursing exam. LOL. Clinical preparation was the hardest for me to adjust to. Don't stress yourself out too much! It will click eventually :)

I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through. I do not believe that IA has a time limit like IL does. If it were me, I would most likely take a refresher course, review content hard core, then start studying for NCLEX in IA. Good luck!

I took Kaplan classroom and I thought it was a waste of time. My instructor taught us their decision tree and for 4 days we just answered NCLEX questions. That was it. Personally, I learned more from the Qbank questions and did not use their decision tree when I took my exam. Good luck!

There are Qtrainer questions online if you search for them. However, if you want access to Qbanks, you will need to pay for those.
