  1. no, has to be critical care. icu, ccu, cvicu, neuro icu, etc.
  2. I took the new exam. it was full of hemodynamics. large test! It was all worth it though!
  3. This is actually a great opportunity to help you! With time you will see and learn major side effects. I recommed you ask your institution for single dose packages, what if someone doesn't want their med? you just throw it away, then who gets charged. also, if you go over your meds with the patient, you can help prevent errors and learn a little. Nursing is a forever learning experience, just when you think you know, soon you will realize how much you don't know. :)
  4. The abdomen has been chosen because medications administered there are absorbed the most.
  5. I have worked with LOTS of nurses who went to rehab, being a former travel nurse. I think they all got jobs afterwards. It's quite sad.
  6. for any questions email me at luciousa84 @ yahoo . com at this time i cannot respond to private messages because i have not contributed to enough discussions.
  7. I used "old" study material and i passed without any problem. I took the new updated exam. there wasn't that much psych stuff on there and it wasn't crazy hard or out of the ordinary psych stuff, you know s/s stuff.
  8. I listed to the laura vonfrolio cd's to and from work for about 2 months and did the pass ccrn cd questions about once a week, then the 5 days before the exam and i passed. I took the new updated version with all the psychological stuff on it!
  9. the fact is there are too many nurses in alabama. everytime i ask someone what they're in college for they say Nursing. It's really not what everybody thinks. most people who are nurses just aren't cut out for it- no sympathy, no brains, etc. the job market isn't that secure.
  10. I traveled after only 1 year of experience. It helped that I was from a university hospital. People were interviewing me left and right. if you want a really good paying job you should get at least 2 years in the critical care esp cvicu. Travel nursing isn't alot of money though. when you get paid more, things are more expensive. I went to cali once and loved it. didn't get paid that much but i shopped at the 99cent stores. sooo cheap!
  11. I don't think your thinking is wrong what so ever. I myself get tired of patients cursing me out right after I saved their freaking life. I don't think your burned out. why not try private sitting?!
  12. Although I have only been living in north Alabama for 2 years, I can tell you it's the worst market for nurses. Upon arrival, I obtained a job at the local hospital, which by the way, doesn't believe in evidenced based practice. They proceeded to tell me after my 2 years of experience and ACLS AND PALS they could only pay me 16.46/hr. I came from a teaching hospital in a major metropolitan area. I had more experience than the house supervisor, which had been in this little town her whole life. I wanted to be close to home so i accepted the job. I only trained there a month. they wanted to give me 2 IAAP pts at the same time, which is not standard practice. This hospital is under major debt and hopefully will be bought out in the next couple of years. I just can't stand the thought of me working so hard to become the competent nurse I am, I study on my days off, and work somewhere I'm not supported. The unit manager told me she didnt want someone with a bachelor's because she was afraid they would leave and go to anesthesia school. Who would try to "dumb down" they're staff like that? I now have to drive a tremendous distance just to work somewhere that gives a flip about they're staff and wants them to accel. It's pitiful here, in northwest AL. do you guys know of ANY good job?
  13. it's not true that an ADN is not considered a college degree. the words "ASSOCIATE DEGREE OF NURSING". a RN nursing certificate is not considered a college degree
  14. sounds like you do! Can the nurse manager not help you out? Have you asked her for help, i.e. more staff? I worked in a similar situation, I know i'm a better nurse because of it, not saying it's right or anything. it also sounds like someone didn't care what kind of assignment they made.
