medications for NCLEX???

Published

I am taking NCLEX in about three weeks and I am still struggling with medications!! It has never been a strong area with me. Does anyone out there have any advice that would help me?? I am studying everyday so it's not like I am sitting here waiting for it to just happen. Just wondering how I should focus my study, like just categories or are there specific meds that will definitly be on NCLEX?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciatd!! Thank you all so much, I love this site!

I was told to be familiar with the most frequently given meds. It helped me some, but not much! Good luck!

Know the basic classifications, their actions, adverse effects, side effects and common dosages. One handy concept is that many adverse effects are exaggerations of the drug action. Antihypertensives are meant to lower the BP. Logical adverse effect is hyPOtension. Antidiarrheal meds? Watch for constipation.

Group similar meds together for ease of studying. Many have similar information.

I wish you well.

I feel your pain, Medications are difficult for me too! Just an FYI..Alot of times when we think of medications we forget about herbals. Although they are not perscribed it is important to know a little about them and how they can interact with other medications. Since your studying right now, I thought id bring that up. good luck on your NCLEX

Have you checked out the flash cards available by: Mosby's I think. Great memory aids with classes and also a few of the basis used. Also, Pharmacology Made Easy! This is a book, but again it very user friendly. mstrudde

PS: good luck

Thanks to all who responded, I appreciate your helpfulness. I've also been reading old threads that have helped out some. It's so good to communicate with other graduates who are facing or have been through NCLEX. Thanks again, now I need to get back to the books and quit finding more interesting stuff on this forum!:specs:

Best wishes to all the March testers,
