Pro's and Con's: I have been working as an LPN in home health care with pediatric vent patients. It is my goal to one day work NICU or PICU, BSN, Masters etc. Due to many cut backs, new RN grads in our area are not getting into the Hospital setting. I have been offered a temp position with the Critical Care Respiratory Specialist affiliated with Children's Hospital. Upon accepting this position, I will be required to cut down hours in the home health care field. I think this would be a great experience: collaberative care with a variety of new health care individuals who share a specific interest, expand my professional experience as well as trying out clinic work etc. I just don't want to make a poor career choice right of the bat. I am going into it with my eye's open: I know it is temporary, but yet it has a lot of positives. It's not everyday, that you can accept a job that allows you to just "test it out". Plus, if I love it, I maybe offered a position in the future, and if not I have just had a 16 week trial and didn't take on a job I hate and can't bear to goto everyday for the next year or 2. Why do I need you? I am the type of person who see's the glass as half full. Am I missing a negative side of this? I currently do not have benifits at my current employeer, I want to continue to grow in this field....I don't want to start and end my career in home health care....At least I want to add something inbetween. I enjoy my job, but I like change.... thrive on new challenges. A bit of a go getter I guess. The local area hospitals are on a hiring freeze. New grads do not have alot of options.
  2. Have you checked out the flash cards available by: Mosby's I think. Great memory aids with classes and also a few of the basis used. Also, Pharmacology Made Easy! This is a book, but again it very user friendly. mstrudde PS: good luck
  3. okay, you guys are way to nice! When was the last time you took a shower or bath in your tidy-whitties??? I practiced bed bathes as a cna in class and have only used those techniques while working in the ICU. But let's be frank, they don't let Nursing students even close to the ICU. So, brush up on your "empathy" and remember, you enter with confidence, and you are seeing them at one of their most private moments. mstrudde, LPN, 3rd semester student
