the med

at one time I thought the med was on a nurses hiring freeze, how are things now? i seen the spots on their website that seem to be open or not. I might be spending alot of time in memphis at the end of this summer and may be in the position to look at employement there. any one with some inside info on the med?

the med is a sinking ship. avoid it if at all possible. the vast majority of the patients and people that work there are ghetto and the hospital is ran as such. this is by no means a shot at anyone that works there, just an observation from the time that i spent working there. there are a couple departments that are not, but there are much better hospitals in memphis for employment.

dang, i hate to hear that. but thanks for the update.

They were on a hiring freeze, but found funding so I think things are loosening up a bit a there. As for it being ghetto, which would not be a word a use to describe it at all, they do see a higher number of medicaid patients than other hospitals in the area. When I was there, it was mostly UT medical students and the nurses were similar to nurses at Baptist or Methodist. They do have problems with money but who wouldn't when you treat uninsured patients from Arkansas and Mississippi with zero help from those states?

Their trauma and burn units are some of the best in the nation. More than one person has told me that if you work in the trauma department at the Med you will never have a problem finding a job throughout your entire career.

thanks i understnd all about seeing indigent or uninsured pts, thats about all we see at my fulltime spot now. i just got through lurking around on their website again, ill probabley send off a general email to one of the recruiters and see if we can playball.

Coming from someone who use to work there (three months ago, and still will be there if I did not move out of state). I really enjoyed my days there, there were some rough days, dont get me wrong, but the nurses I worked with made it worth coming to work. As far as Ghetto, none my all means, there are alot of ghetto patients and family members, but at the end of the day, the job got done. Well bigups to the MED.

i will say this though. there is a reason they went through like 5 ceo's or directors (whatever their term was) in a short period of time. you're better off going to methodist university if you want something downtown, or one of the other facilities in the areas surrounding memphis

hey speaking of methodist, do they still have that hospital based rn and lpn program located at the methodist central location?

Yes . I believe that program is still around. Baptist for sure has their RN program still up and running.

No, they don't. It is no longer functioning. I go to UTHSC and several of their instructors now work here.

Are you sure about that? I know Baptist has the Baptist College of Nursing, but they do not have a hospital diploma program as far as I know. I'm an intern at Baptist and I've never heard of this.

Well, this was almost two years ago where I met some nurses who graduated from Baptist, rather it was diploma or not, did not care to ask, they were RN's. To the OP, I would contact the hospital for more info.
