Hi everyone!

I am currently a student at UGA and just switched to a pre-nursing major. I am interested in applying to MCGs Athens campus but am worried about my GPA. I was wondering if yall could let me know your GPA or anyones you know that got in to the BSN program at MCG! thank you!

Hi there. I am currently in my third week at MCG's nursing program. Hate to break bad news to you but a low GPA might make it difficult to get into the Athens Campus. At GPC I had a 4.0, was in the Honor Society, on the Dean's List, and was voted Student of the Semester, and I still did NOT get into the Athens Campus. So I am not sure what it takes to get in there. I was put on the waiting list so I decided to come to the Augusta campus. Maybe I didn't get in because my SAT scores were just average. I don't know.

Either way, be sure to keep options open. I am married and have a house in the Athens are and I really thought there was no way I could do the Augusta campus. However, since that was the only option I had, I managed to work with it and this arrangement may be for the better. So far it is working out great and I just have to take out student loans and visit the hubby on weekends. But you have to look on the bright side, it is only for 2 years and after all the breaks they give it is actually just a little under 1.5 years. Definitely worth the sacrifice since I will get a BSN RN instead of an ADN at any other school. Plus Augusta is just awesome!! I visited the downtown this past weekend and I LOVE it - has a way better downtown than Athens. (Sorry Athens peeps)

thank you so much for your response! Yah i go to UGA and the curriculum there is just ridiculously hard, I am good in all the other areas of the application im just scared im lacking in the GPA area!

Hi there!

I am a student at the Athens campus! It is true that you need a competitive GPA, but keep in mind that they look at everything as a whole, so don't lose hope just yet. My core nursing GPA is 3.8, but as a whole, it is only close to 3.5. This is only because I had a class that a WF transferred into an F due to an illness that caused me to miss a big exam that I didn't get to make up. So, I have almost a 3.5 WITH that F, but if you take it out--which I didn't need that class for nursing school, as it was an unrelated class I took before I changed majors--it is a 3.8, close to 3.9. They say that they take the overall GPA, but in my case, I think it was overlooked b/c I could explain the one bad grade I had, and they also look at the overall trend of your GPA. I have always heard that they also go really heavily on the essay portion, etc. I am a good writer, so that worked in my favor, and might in yours. Also, if you have any experience/volunteer work, it will help. I actually had none and still got in. However, when I first got accepted, I got accepted to the Augusta campus and the choice to be put on the alternate list for Athens. Even though it was a long shot, I had to take the alternate list as I couldn't move to Augusta, and lo and behold, I got in. I hope this helps, and keep your chin up--if you are meant to go there, it will work out for ya! :) I know God was in it for me, and MCG SONAT is where I was meant to end up! Just make sure you apply as early as possible as that will also help you out.

Best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
