MCCCD programs and PDA/Ipod touch

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if the MCCCD Nursing programs (especially Scottsdale program) allow the use of PDA/Ipod touch or smart phones? I've been searching other threads and it appears that there are a lot of nursing students who use these and applications they purchase through skyscape. I think that's what it's called...lol.

Anyway, I would love to purchase an Ipod touch this summer and get some of the programs that skyscape has. I also figured the smart phones would be out because of the camera/cell phone not being allowed during clinicals.

Any advice would be great! Thank you!

I am a current student and have used my i=pod touch during clinicals. Just be sure the instructor and facility are ok with it before you use it. BTW nursing central is a great app,

Thank you mrincc! I'm glad to see that they allow this but will definitely check with the instructors to ensure that it's ok.

:)

Download Epocrates too.

Thank you HJS27! I will definitely do that as well.

In addition to epocrates, I downloaded a medical spanish app that has come in handy. I know no spanish and the app is great for basic communication. It will even say the message for you if your pronunciation is really poor. ;-)

Yeah epocrates is great, too. I can quickly look up drugs while on site and mark them to look up in more detail later in my nursing drug book.

(Psst! Most hospitals have free wifi so you can also check your emails-- at lunch)

i use my iphone, mostly epocrates, in clinicals. not only is it allowed, my instructors encourage it.

This is very encouraging to read. Thank you for posting this! I'm planning on purchasing myself an Ipod touch for my birthday in July and then downloading the items others have suggested as well. Now that it has been a couple of days since our first meeting this past monday...i'm feeling a little more relaxed. Although...i'm sure once time gets closer i'll be anxious and begin counting hours/minutes rather than days when it will all begin..lol :lol2:
