I can't figure this out..

Ordered: Codeine gr 3/4 po q4h prn for pain

Available: Codeine 30 mg tablets

the answer is: 2.5 tablets

I don't get it..

Neither do I. I come up with 1.5 tablets. The conversion factor is 1 grain = 60 or 65mg, whichever you want to use. The answer in your book might just be wrong.

1 gr = 60mg

3/4gr = 3/4 *60= 45mg

codeine available = 30mg

therefore, 30 + 15 = 45mg

1tab + 0.5 Tab = 1.5

I came up with 1.5

1 gr=60-65 mg

3/4 gr=45 mg

d/h x Q=amount to give

45/30=1.5 tablets

are meds actually still ordered in this archaic way?

i haven't seen this since college 20 years ago!

I figured it out.. Our teacher made an error.. instead of gr 3/4= 45 mg.. she had it at 75.. so it knocked the whole question off.

Thanks for all the input..

I passed my test this morning.. woo-hoo!

Yeah-congrats! Glad she fixed it--I also got 1.5 before reading other posts...

No one in the class was able to pick up the error?
