mandatory commitment to the USPHS?

are there any X number of years required for commitment to the USPHS? i might try this route and test to see if i like it or not, but dont want to be locked for x number of years

    Thanks so much for your reply. Good luck on Monday. I have found this website to be extremely helpful and more informative that speaking to recruiters. I'm sure I will have more questions as I go through the process, at leat I know now it can take 2-6 months to become active. Anymore general application tips would be great.

    For COSTEPs I think the commitment is 2 days for every day that you are a COSTEP.
