Malpractice Insurance

I didn't really think about this until I read an article about it the other day. Do any of you purchase this type of insurance when you go to camp? I am not sure what we fall under and no matter how cautious we may all be you never know what lies out there for us. If not do we fall under the camp or the physician that is there all the time? Never thought about this before.

To all my nurses who do camp duty as a job or as a volunteer, I strongly urge them to make certain that the camp or sponsoring organization has current liability coverage that will cover the nurse and I ask to see a certificate of insurance. If not, the nurse needs to obtain her own coverage.

I would never trust an employer to look out for my interests, and I would never work a single day without my own coverage, in any setting. I don't care what kind of coverage the employer does or doesn't have, there is always the chance that the day will come that your and the employer's interests diverge, and, when that happens, you're screwed if you don't have your own coverage (and, by the time you realize you're in that situation, it's too late to get your own coverage for that particular situation; you can get coverage for future incidents, but no insurance company on the planet will sell you coverage for something that has already happened).

I was required to have malpractice insurance from day one of nursing school. I've kept it going ever since.
