LPN

I am going to an LPN program September of 2015, is staying an LPN a good choice or would it be better for me to continue and become and RN ?

You will make more money and have more career options with your RN.

This is a frequently discussed topic which often turns into an RN vs LPN argument that ends up getting closed by a moderator.

It's an individual journey, perhaps try the LPN program to see if you even enjoy nursing, then bridge to RN later on.

You might find you love being an LPN and see no need to pursue your RN. Again it's an individual preference.

Good luck

Thank you both for you're feedback, i will put both options into consideration!

I'm awaiting entry into a LPN program myself (fingers crossed for January 2015) but have no intention of stopping there. LPN employment prospects are too limited these days. I will continue to at least BSN, albeit slowly as I have to keep working and can't afford to take on a ton of debt. I've met and worked with awesome LPNs and hope to someday be one, but it will be a stepping stone and not a destination.

It's all depends. I am currently a Pharmacy Technician at a major health system in Detroit, MI. I love my job, but I am starting my nursing journey because I love the patient care "hands-on" part of healthcare. I was an activities assistant/resident care giver at a nursing home and assisted living. I loved all my heathcare jobs and know that nursing is my passion.

I am starting my LPN program Sept. 3 after waiting on two different lists for RN program. I personally plan on bridging...eventually, after at least a year or two of working as an LPN.
