LPN or RN?

Published

I have been accepted to both an LPN program and an associate degree RN program. I cannot decide which would be best for me. With the LPN program I only have 3 semesters left. And then 2-3 after to do the mobility track RN program. With the RN program, I have around 5 semesters left. My ultimate goal is RN, but some say its better to do the LPN thing first and see if I like it. The RN program is in my town and the LPN would be a 45 minute drive everyday. I cannot decide, and need to make a decision soon. Just wondering if anyone with experience has any insight for me. Thanks!

I'd go with RN.

If you're already accepted into RN I would go for it. I'm an lvn currently doing the bridge program to RN. I don't regret becoming an lvn first but if you're already accepted to the RN program go for it. Usually lvn-rn bridge programs require transition courses which could take 1-2 semesters

Okay, thank y'all! I appreciate the response.

Get the RN--much, much more career opportunity/mobility with an RN. Takes a little longer but it is definitely worth it--you're already in, so go for it.

Many hospitals are phasing out their LPNs in my area--makes it harder for LPNs to find work.

Seems like almost the same time length ?

You will make MUCH more money as an RN.
