LPN or RN

Published

At my school all nursing students go through nursing 1 and 2 together. after that you get to chose wether you want to be an LPN or RN. Now i have been struggling with this decision, I signed up for RN but the thing is that i can be done next summer if i go LPN route as opposed to being done in May 2008 if go for the RN. I am set to take Micro in these last 5 weeks of the summer after I'm done with A&PII which is required for the ADN. But i was wondering if it would be wise to just stop at the LPN and work for a while then go back for the RN (maybe BSN) in the future. But then i feel i might regret not just going for 2 more semesters to become an RN. Has anyone else ever been in this position/situation. ANY thoughts or suggestions welcome. thanks guys, i said it once and ill say it again I love this site.

I would say if you only have to go 2 additional semesters, go for the RN. If you plan on going back later anyway then why not just get it done now. You can not predict what your life will be like in a few years, you may not get the chance to go back. Good Luck ;)

Yeah that thing about where you will be in life is true, thats one big reason why i am against stopping at LPN for now. Is there a bridge program for LPN to BSN?

Specializes in None...YET!.

Good advice.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

Keep going for the RN. There are a wider variety of opportunities and the pay is better (sometimes doing similar work for 5 to 8 dollars an hour more). Keep on keeping on.

Good luck.

You guys are right i am going to just keep on truckin to more semesters and do what i originally planned, become an RN. There is just alot more oportunites for me at least in becoming an RN. thaks guys

Nope. You need to be an RN before doing a bridge RN-BSN.
