LPN to RN programs??

Advanced placement at any Maricopa Community College Program, University of Phoenix has an LPN-BSN program, but you have to get your LPN and work for 3-6 months, I think Pima offers it as well. but I am not sure of their program as I have only seen bits of info on it on allnurses.com

I considered doing this as well but have heard contradictory information whether or not there is a job market for LPN's here in Arizona....would love to hear from someone with experience in this area?

I have been an LPN for 18 years and have never had a problem finding work. I recently was accepted into the LPN-RN bridge program at Pima Medical Institute, but before you think of doing an LPN program try them first, they offer a full RN program with some pre-reqs included. They have classes in Mesa and Tucson...Good luck!

Pay can vary by whom you work for and how many years experience...in my case I made $55,000.00 last year in homehealth, The VA is your best bet, they are unionized and start new LPN's around $32-36,000.00 yearly, but you always get a cost of living raise every year on top of your annual salary raise., the benefits are excellent and well worth the long trek it takes to get in....lots of paperwork...I've seen lpn's offered as low as $15.00 per hour, which isn't bad for no experience...if it's only money and learning experience you are looking for then go with the agencies they pay more, just no benefits..goodluck to you

I graduated from an LPN program August 09 and some of my classmates still haven't found work. I got a job 2 months after getting licensed. As a new nurse in Glendale, AZ I make $22/hr plus 75 cents shift differential working the 2pm-10pm shift.

There is a huge market in AZ for LPNs... the problem is there is not a huge market in AZ for NEW LPNs.

Actually there is not a huge market for NEW RNs either at the moment.

But where there is a will there is a way... it just takes time and persistence when job hunting. Plus in time the economy will turn around as it has done in the past.

Or at least that's what I keep telling myself!

Not to resurrect an old thread but I am interested in any info on the LPN to RN route, personal experience or advice that any one may have. The reason I am doing the LPN program is the wait list for the RN programs are so long and I do believe other people have done it for the same reason. However, I attended the info session at Estrella CC and the advisor basically said anyone one who was "thinking of the LPN program as a short cut" should not do it because you would fail block 3. She said the LPN program doesn't cover what you learn in blocks one and two of the RN program so we are not prepared to enter in to block 3? True or no? BUT she did say that if we did the LPN program worked as a LPN for a few months THEN entered the RN program we would be okay . . . Any input would be great!
