should i do a LPN program?

Published

hi, i was wondering if i could get some feedback from you guys---should I do an LPN program? I'm in my junior year of Nursing School and I have to drop out because I've run out of money-private school is expensive. So I guess my thinking was, should I just do an LPN program? Is it hard?

its very hard, i just graduated, but if u do the lpn program u can come back later and finish ur rn cuz u probably have ur prereqs done, but let me warn you all of the rns at my job that were lpns first said that the lpn program was way harder than the rn program bcuz its so much in so little time, good luck on ur decision

I went to College. I am now in the PN program. I have more work in this full time program than I did with a 19 credit course load in college. It is very difficult but it is worth it. I dont know what programs you are looking into or where you are but the course I am in is 10 months which includes 500 hours of clinicals. I chose this route because it is cheaper and faster. I also think that working as a nurse before going for my rn will make it easier, since the clinical in NY for rn is very limited. I am in the hospital mon - wed and in the classroom thur/fri. I think getting your LPN is a great idea if you want to get into nursing. Good Luck.

PN Program is a lot cheaper than BSN Program. After a year of training you are ready for work. Unlike the BSN program of 4 years training plus the internship..If you like caring and wanting to work faster then you should go for PN..but if you are only after the salary..PN's do get paid lower than RN's and I don't suggest you pursuing the program. You asked if it is hard..YES, it is! But if you like what you are doing..instead of feeling "the hard part", you'll enjoy it :)

I am a BSN student before and shifted to PN. I will be graduating this year. Although we have different training's I'm sure that I can do most of the BSN's procedures..basically it's really the same..RN's and LVN/LPN just have different assigned tasks to do.

GOODLUCK!

You need to do what is best for you at that time. If you have other responsibilities outside of school or perhaps want to get into a program that is not time consuming, then by all means enroll in a practical nursing program and be on your way to a career right after completion! I think any form of nursing school is hard,it's all about what you can handle and what you are trying to do. You can always get the PN out the way then go straight for your BSN later on. I have seen some hospitals even assist with tuition reimbursement as long as you work for them. I decided to go into a practical nursing program because I have a daughter and she is on her way to high school this year so time is of the essence for me lol at least this will prepare you for the program at a later date.
