LPN to ADN

I am an LPN with 20 years of experience, and I cannot believe that there isn't a place somewhere to get parts of an ADN based on my experience! I understand that there are some things I would have to take classes on, but I've gained great on the job experience as to how things work. I am presently looking at getting an ADN, I would like to do it online, is there anyone that has done this? How much does it cost? Can you do it part time? There is so much out there, I am not sure what is on the up and up and what is not.

Excelsior College has a distance-based LPN-to-RN program that you do entirely at home, and at your own pace. It costs about $7,500 and is fully accredited. They also give you some credit for experience.

I'd check with your BON because some states are not accepting Excelsior any longer. Many community colleges have LPN to RN bridge programs that you can do in two semesters also. Good luck, Jules

I had suggested Excelsior College because it is a distance program, and the original poster had declared that (s)he wanted to do an online or distance program. I'm sure the OP knew about community college LPN-to-RN bridge programs, but it doesn't appear that the option fits into this person's current lifestyle.

Have no idea where you live but recently came across web site for Mt. St. Mary's College in LA CA. They have several nrsg programs, including weekend, evening options. One of the tracks described on their site is a program for LVNs to get advanced placement. NLN competency tests are taken as part of the entrance process. You are given credit for x amt of program based on how much of the tests you pass with an acceptable score. Sounds great. However, this private school is a pricey way to get an ASN or BSN. As I remember, about $550 per semester unit. But if you can do it, well worth the money. This school is very highly regarded, graduates are well respected. (For what it costs, it better have an excellent reputation!). Don't think you would necessarily want to move to CA to attend this particular school, however, you could research other programs to find out if others give any credit or ways to test out for LPN/LVN. Wow, it wasn't intended as a criticism, just wanted to make clear that Excelsior isn't accepted everywhere and add another option. Believe it or not I've talked to people that didn't know about CC bridge programs.

Thanks for all the replies. The St Mary's program sounds great, pricey but a great idea, they should all be like that. Having 20 years experience in an acute care setting should really count towards something.

I am almost as far away from CA as you can get (though I would love to be closer). It does give me more of an idea of things to look for.
