It's been a few months in the E.D. Been great so far. Sooooo much better than med/surg. Sure the freq's are plenty, but that's part of the gig. I am going back in tonight, and I must be an adrenalin junky because, I am the lone RN scheduled tonight and I am geeked about it! We are a 6 bed plus vertical care E.D. so it really is not an ideal situation...but I think I can admit now that I love the challenge. But for the patients sake, I hope they find a 2nd RN to work with me tonight ?

What is a vertical care ED? I have never heard that term before.
We moved out some beds in order to put in an area of recliners. The recliners are used for pt's that have been triaged, roomed and seen by the physician, and then moved to a recliner (results pending area) where they await discharge once their studies have been resulted as negative so this opens up beds quicker, and gives the pt a sense of moving through a process instead of sitting in one spot for a long time. Which that aspect is a psychological piece, but it is effective at times, unless no one can move from a bed, then we wish we would have our beds back...
