Hmmmm..... Are those that are saying that "nursing
is a dumb course" people that have failed out of it, or people that have never taken it?
And someone who says that "there are too many nurses already" either never was a patient in the hospital, or never visited anyone there either!
Nursing is a difficult, back-breaking, though very rewarding field. We work very hard, and most of us take our jobs very seriously, and do it with the hope to make a difference for those we care for. And unless you are a genius (and even then, I am not sure), the course are NOT easy. Some things may be easier than other for some people, depending on your interest and aptitude levels, but this is the same for everyone. And some of nursing is instincts and guts, and you can't train that into people that don't have it already.

Whoah. What a dilemma.
I was exactly like you when I was in school.
This would seem to be a cliche, but following your heart is the key to your answer.
Try to imagine the outcome If youll end up as a nurse in a few years. What do you see?
Try to imagine which course you will shift into If you decided to leave nursing. What do you see?
It's really all up to you. What are your priorities?
Dont ever listen to what others might say. Weigh things out and evaluate.

So sad what nursing and nurses in the Philippines are going through lately.
Just several years ago when the countries in Europe, the Middle East, the U.S., Canada, Australia and NZ imported so many Filipino nurses that the Philippines actually experienced a shortage of "trained and experienced" nurses, however briefly. There were talks of not just "brain drain" but a "brain hemorrhage" as thousands and thousands of Filipino nurses left for greener pastures outside the Philippines. This has made nursing a very popular career choice among the young and old Filipinos wishing for a better future... abroad.
Lately nursing has become too popular for its own good. There have been far too many Filipinos who enrolled and who are currently enrolled in nursing schools in the Philippines. Then several corrupt and idiotic Philippine government officials allowed the opening and the continued operation of sub-standard nursing schools. What the Philippines now have is a big mess. Too many Filipino nurses can't find jobs, and many will have zero chance to work as paid nurses in the Philippines.
Those who graduated from sub-standard nursing schools in the Philippines are at a greater disadvantage when it comes to getting a job overseas. For those who haven't worked as nurses for several years will lose their nursing knowledge and skills. What they have learned several years ago are now becoming obsolete.
Case in point, in our medical center here in San Francisco, Calif. some of the RNs who have been working in clinics are "scared" to work again in our Med-Surg. wards because their skills are no longer current. Our computer charting is being updated a few times a year, there are changes all the time. We are on the verge of also computerizing our MAR (Medical Administration Records). More modern equipments are being introduced every now and then. Therefore, if you are an RN in a modern hospital it is your personal and professional responsibility to keep up with all the changes that are happening in your profession.
Did you say haven't worked as a nurse in five years?
What???
Next applicant please.

1. nursing IS NOT REPEAT NOT a dumb course. there are no dumb courses, only dumb instructors and administrators(and some dumb students who just plays along to fill the pockets of the :devil:smart:devil: ones, not really pushing to get their money's worth).
2. true. and it keeps on going, and going, and going...
3. false. NEVER is a generalization, and is usually wrong in the local board exams!
that being said, imagine yourself as an animal(any species) in the savannah. there is a drought and various packs, prides, herds, etc. are struggling for water. how do you survive?
by having the EDGE.
be faster, taller, smarter, stronger, whatever it takes, then you will have the highest chance of getting water.
now try applying that in the real world.:prdnrs:

Ask yourself:
What is my REAL passion?
It's a known hard fact here in our country most of the nursing graduates have put aside their true desire for the reason of the promising golden opportunites of being an R.N. I have a friend who have worked for 10 years in the field of nursing. She's was successful and committed to her job. Although she's happy with her chosen career, something is still missing. She tried to pursue her REAL dream as a pre-school teacher...so she decided to pursue her dream before any regrets. She loved being a nurse but she has this certain "calling" to become a teacher that's been bugging her. Friends and relatives are against it and told her not to pursue the teaching field and just concentrate on her being a nurse but she still continued and now she's a full pledged teacher. Now she tells me that "both of those careers are great but nothing compares of acheiving that sense of fullfilment when you get to fill in your REAL joy and passion" She graduated with honors and now teaches in one of the best schools in the country.
So...what's your REAL passion? :)

"nursing is a dumb course""there are too many nurses already""when you graduate, you'll never find a job".
.
these guys can be devided into several groups:who dislike taking care of others, who do not know what is real nursing, who do not believe himself/herself and can be easily effected by others...or just dislike nursing.
But the key is what's YOU want?
Let others go,Just follow your heart!

People have different experiences everyday. Because of these experiences, different opinions are said. But despite all that have been said, its up to you to live up nursing or not. There are negative and positive sides on taking up nursing. And yes its already difficult to find a job nowadays. But to be a real Nurse there's this so called "PATIENCE and PASSION."
If you really want to be a nurse, go on!
Have you read about the story of a frog race? The first to climb the mountain is the winner. Everyone failed climbing because the audience kept on saying negative things. "That he can't do it and you will fail." Guess who won? the one who can't hear.
