Looking for ABSN program which is better? UM, Barry, MDC, FIU or NOVA?

How hard is it get into the UM program? I haven't done all my pre-reqs yet? Do you need to take them all before applying? Which school is best?:typing

Thanks so much!

Hey Den1978,

Do you have your RN already? If not, and if you are looking for a BSN program, MDC only has an ADN (Associate's Degree in Nursing option), and RN-to-BSN program.

I'm not too familiar with the other schools, but from what I hear, Barry and Nova have excellent BSN programs. Good luck!

UM is very well respected. But as will ALL accelerated programs (I have a friend who just finished at Regis University), there is a problem with administration, coordination, etc.

You can apply without finishing all of your pre-reqs, but you had better be in your last semester of undergrad, have a killer essay, and outshine the med-school students who decided to do nursing.

Thanks so much!!! Yes I know I am dying to get accepted into one of this programs but they are all as so competitive.

UF and UCF have ABSN programs too. I'm at UF if you have any spec. q's you can message me

UM is the best school in the area. However, I heard they were having problems with their nursing program. You can do a little bit of research on that. As a second option I would pick FIU.

Didn't UF stop all applications to the nursing programs because of budget cuts?

Hi everyone,

From what I understand, UM was put on probation a few years ago (2007) due to poor NCLEX pass rates. They were scoring below the national average. But I'm sure by now they have cleared this up. However, you can check online for the most recent (2008) NLCEX pass rates in Florida.

No, the BSN @ UF is still alive and well. The accelerated BSN class for this year just started a month ago, and so far there are plans for a class next year as well (for which I intend to apply). The basic BSN is also ongoing, read here: http://con.ufl.edu/news/news-BSNmessage-update.shtml

Yeah I wasn't 100% sure but my brother just graduated from UF and that is why I had heard about the budget cuts. It is good that they are keeping the program that way it balances out for the other schools that are or have lowered the enrollment rate.

Good luck! :)
