littman stethoscopes

This may sound like a really stupid question but can somebody explain the difference between the littman stethoscopes? I see classic II, III, cardiology III, etc.

Featured Replies

The classic series - either adult or peds - has a single diaphragm on one side and turns to use the bell on the other.

The cardiology III has an adult side that turns and also has a pedi side -- both sides operate as both a diaphragm and bell by using different pressures exerted when listening (takes some practice)

both are good... if you've never used a stethoscope before the classic may be a better option to allow you to get used to hearing both the high and low tones using the separate sides before attempting to do it with a cardiology series.

Thank you. Ive been a CNA and passed fundamentals b4. I just never paid attention to the different brands, just used the ones from the bookstore. Now that im actually paying attention I got confused.

Thanks for asking this question— I've been wondering this too!

Your welcome. I'm glad it wasn't just me. I wasn't going to at first because it seemed like a no brainer but when I really started looking because of everything I've read on here I got confused. Since ive had a stethoscope before I might get cardio. Which one you thinking?

I've been a paramedic for years and am going to be working in an ER as a nurse.. since you never know who the next patient may be (adult or pedi) the cardiology III is my choice... have been using it for several years now and love it.

Since I know how to use a basic stethoscope will it be hard to get used to a cardiology?

I listened to my classmate's Littman cardiology III steth. I took bp, auscultated heart and breath sounds. I'm not advanced of course but I heard no difference between my $50 cardiology brand. (RA Bock). I'm editing because idk just saying for people needing a lower price.
