how is it like?

I'm starting college next summer and since i was like 13, I've always wanted to be an RN, preferably working with babies or delivering moms, of course i haven't totally decided yet. I just want to know, how is nursing like? How about nursing school? What do you like about your job?

You might have better luck asking this question in the general nursing forum.. ;)

ok, thanks ;)

I can't answer about how nursing is, but as far as nursing school goes....I love it! It's difficult, challenging, and I haven't had a social life in the past three semesters (graduating in December!), but I still love it. I love the nursing profession and what it stands for, and I'm so ready to become a part of it!

I also work in a level III Neonatal ICU, with hopes of getting my neonatal RNC certification and my NNP someday. Eric and I both deal with critically ill preemies and term babies, as well as their families. I love the ability to be in the delivery room one minute, resuscitating a 24 week preemie before rushing him to our unit, where I am responsible for his total care, involving drips, IV's arterial lines, umbilical lines, special high-frequency oscillator ventilators, chest tubes, surgeries, etc. It's very rewarding to see a baby you've taken care of for months go from being a 18 oz preemie to a 6 pounder ready to go home. Like the commercial, it's priceless.
